This summer, Andrew Steinberg and myself (Andrew Bates) will be co-producing a production of Jason Robert Brown's, 'The Last 5 Years'. I'm thrilled to be working with Andrew, an incredible musician and director, on this project. We both have a love for musical theater and wanted to use our talents to create an evening of fun for an audience.
We will be putting on this show at TAK Music Venue in Moorhead in mid-July. We would love your help raising funds to pay for the venue, rights for the show, and pay actors and a live band.
'The Last 5 Years' explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The show uses a form of storytelling in which Jamie's story is told in chronological order (starting just after the couple have first met) and Cathy's story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show at the end of the marriage).
When I graduated from Concordia College with a degree in Theatre, this is exactly the kind of thing I pictured being able to do to give back to the community. I've had a passion for theater since I first performed in summer programs around my hometown of Staples, MN, and that passion has followed me to my life in Moorhead.
