💜 CREATING A SAFE SPACE
A Yoga Practice for Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Ahimsa • Compassion • Boundaries • Choice • Safety
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to bring awareness to the importance of safety, respect, healthy boundaries, and compassion.
For this special yoga practice, we will explore Ahimsa, the yogic principle of non-harming. Ahimsa is more than simply avoiding physical harm. It asks us to consider how we treat ourselves and others through our thoughts, words, actions, and boundaries.
💜 Safety Begins With Having Choices
Yoga gives us an opportunity to practice listening to ourselves.
Throughout this class, you will be encouraged to notice what your body is telling you and make choices that honor what you need in that moment.
Every pose is an invitation.
Every modification is welcome.
Rest is always an option.
“No” is a complete and acceptable choice.
Your practice belongs to you.
Sometimes compassion means softness and rest. Sometimes it means creating a boundary. Sometimes it means recognizing, “This doesn’t feel right for me,” and honoring that information.
We will practice remembering that more isn’t always better, rest isn’t failure, and we don’t have to ignore ourselves in order to meet someone else’s expectations.
🌿 What to Expect
This will be a mindful, supportive yoga practice incorporating grounding, breath awareness, gentle movement, strengthening and balancing poses, and relaxation. Throughout the practice, multiple options will be offered so that you can choose what feels appropriate for your body.
There will be no expectation to share personal experiences, and participation in every part of the practice is always your choice.
Our intention is simple:
To create a space where we can practice listening to ourselves, honoring our boundaries, respecting the boundaries of others, and meeting ourselves with compassion.
