Love spending time at Wrightsville Beach? The City of Montpelier is seeking a community-minded resident to fill a vacancy on the Wrightsville Beach Recreation District Board of Directors.

As a board member, you’ll help oversee policy, operations, and the long-term stewardship of the park’s popular amenities—including swimming, kayaking and canoe rentals, disc golf, picnic shelter rentals, and miles of trail access along the reservoir.

Montpelier appoints two resident representatives to the multi-town board (alongside Middlesex, East Montpelier, and Worcester).

Board members work closely with park management to support outdoor recreation, facility improvements, and local conservation efforts.

🚧 **UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION NOTICE: Main Street Traffic Cabinet Installation** 🚧

Starting Monday, August 24, LaFaso Electric will begin conduit installation work along Main Street (extending from the Fire Station to City Center, parallel to parking areas).

Here is what you need to know:

🚫 PARKING RESTRICTIONS: No on-street parking will be permitted on Main Street between State Street and Pitkin Court while work is underway.

🚦 TRAFFIC IMPACTS: Expect altered traffic flow at the Main St & State St intersection. Flaggers will be on-site to help maintain safe traffic flow.

🛍️ LOCAL BUSINESSES ARE OPEN: Access to local shops will NOT be obstructed. Please continue to visit and support our downtown businesses while construction is ongoing!

🗓️ Timeline: Work is expected to wrap up by the end of next week (weather and subsurface conditions permitting). A brief power transfer will occur the following week with minimal impact.

9:30 PM Update: BOIL WATER NOTICE LIFTED: Water samples for Elm Street and Marvin Street have tested clean. The Boil Water Notice for these remaining areas is now being lifted. Thank you for your patience while crews responded to these emergency water service repairs.

1:24 PM Update: BOIL WATER NOTICE LIFTED:
Water samples sent to our lab in Williston have tested clean. The CITY-WIDE Boil Water Notice is being lifted except for the following streets:
• Elm St. from Court St. to Spring St.
• Marvin St. from Bingham St. to Hubbard St.
A second set of samples are being taken for those streets, and a second boil water end notice will be issued once we receive those results

⚠️ CITY-WIDE BOIL WATER NOTICE IN EFFECT
Water samples were taken throughout the City yesterday following the water main repair on Elm Street, and we anticipate receiving results later this afternoon. If water sample results do not test positive for coliform bacteria, the City will be able to lift the boil water order in all locations except for Elm Street between Court Street and Spring Street, and Marvin Street between Bingham Street and Hubbard Street. These portions of Elm Street and Marvin Street both had additional water main breaks yesterday and require additional water quality sampling, which is being performed this morning. The results in these locations are not expected to be received until Monday.

The City will send a City-wide VT-Alert when the boil water notice is lifted. Water at the Recreation Center on Barre Street is NOT part of the Boil Water Notice. Water is safe to use in this location as normal.

⚠️ CITY-WIDE BOIL WATER NOTICE IN EFFECT
Due to a major water main break on Elm Street, a City-Wide Boil Water Notice is in effect for all Montpelier public water customers until further notice.

Who is Affected?
EVERYONE on the city water system EXCEPT properties located on the following street segments:
• Main Street: From the Roundabout to Route 2
• State Street: From Main Street to Bailey Avenue
• Barre Street: From Main Street to Pioneer Street
If you are not located on one of the three exempted street segments above, you must boil your water before drinking or cooking.

While the Boil Water Notice is in Effect:
Bring all tap water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute and let it cool before using it for drinking or making ice, brushing teeth, preparing or cooking food. Water is safe for showering or bathing, but avoid swallowing any water.

🚧 Elm Street Road Closure:
Elm Street is closed between Spring St. and Court St. while crews are working on emergency water main repairs. Please seek alternate routes and avoid the area to keep space clear for crews to work safely.

What Happened:
During planned upgrades to move water lines from an older pipe to a newer main on Elm St., a valve separated from a pipe connection. This created a large, 6-inch leak that caused a rapid drop in water pressure across much of the city.

Next Steps & How the Notice Will Be Lifted:
Water samples must be collected and sent to a certified lab to test for bacteria (coliform). We will issue an update as soon as passing lab results are received and the notice is officially lifted. Once the notice is lifted, run your cold water tap for 5 to 10 minutes on all indoor and outdoor faucets, showers, and ice dispensers to clear any discolored or stagnant water from your home's plumbing.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, April 4, 2026, for our annual Egg Hunt in Hubbard Park! Arrive at the Winter Street Gate by 9:45 AM for the Hunt beginning at 10:00 AM sharp.

This is a free event for kids 12 years and younger. We will have three age groups: 0-4 years, 5-7 years, and 8-12 years.

In an emergency, a buried fire hydrant can delay life-saving response times by several critical minutes.

We’re asking for your help to keep our neighborhood safe! If you have a fire hydrant near your home, please "Adopt-a-Hydrant" this winter.

🧤 How you can help:
❄ Clear a 3-foot perimeter around the hydrant wide enough for firefighters to work.
❄ Create a path from the hydrant to the street so it’s visible and accessible.
❄ Check on it after the snowplows pass through to make sure it's still accessible.

🚶‍♀️❄️ Be Seen, Be Safe — Especially in Winter ❄️🚶‍♀️
As winter weather rolls in, visibility becomes a safety issue for pedestrians in Montpelier, Snow, blowing wind, and darkness can make it hard for drivers — and especially plow and salt crews — to see people near or crossing roadways.

To help keep everyone safe:
👷Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially at night
🦺Add reflective bands, vests, or patches to coats, backpacks, and hats
🔦Carry a small flashlight or light-up accessory when walking after dark
❄Be extra cautious during snowstorms and early morning plowing hours

Our plow and salt crews work hard to keep roads safe, often in low-visibility conditions. Making yourself more visible helps them — and all drivers — see you sooner and respond safely.
