I know....I know... I am terrible at promoting myself. It's really not easy for me to put my poetry out there but I'm still trying. I read a poem out loud to all my co-workers on Tuesday....it was terrifying and I couldn't stop shaking, but I survived.
Here was what I read:

It is past. The voice whispered
It is all but gone
It is time to move forward
Time to go on
Memories will linger
Dreams may haunt
Try to be strong now
Find what you've sought
Nights are the hardest
Painfully alone
Cry for now darling
Your pain's always shown
The sun rises again
Though tomorrow there'll never be
Only the endless changes
Discovering who is me
"Look deep"
Whispered kind
"Search though the folds
Surprised what awaits there
Treasures the soul holds"
Beautiful female standing
Next to a tree on a hill
Oceans of plains
Vision without will
Slowly she turned
Profile highlighted by sun
Hair blowing gently
We were but one
So peacefully she stood
Surrounded by naught
Brighter image of myself
The lesson being taught?
Remember. Distant now
What you've been shown
Find your spirit sweet child
It is time to come home

One week from tomorrow this author will be attending her first authorpalooza in Montpelier Idaho, not far from the beautiful Bear Lake area.
I'm excited to see some of my fellow authors who I haven't seen since we were all just "aspiring authors".
The journey to write our books were filled with many challenges that I can probably safely say, none of us expected. Yet we succeeded!
I'm so proud of us!!
The challenges didn't end with having a finished book though, now we each are finding our own ways to share our creations out into the world. That we are coming back together in this moment is truly beautiful!
Stories have the power to change lives. And while not every story is meant for every person, an authorpalooza is somewhere people can come meet authors who are offering so much more than just their story...

I hope you will join us! Come browse the various books available for purchase if the story calls to you!
And if you've ever dreamed of writing your own story, come talk with authors who just might inspire you!

I recall the first time I heard this song, I was 15 and feeling suffocated by a world I didn't fit into, a world that made me think everyone else had it all figured out and I was just "a radical, a liberal, fanatical, criminal"... it took a lot of time, healing and self love to understand that regardless of the words we use to justify ourselves, to explain why we do what we do (when we will later say we should have known better). In the end, we are where we are and anything less than accepence of that, is judgement. We do it to others. We do it to ourselves. The other side of that, which my daughter was instrumental in showing me, is boundaries. In trying so hard to be kind to everyone else, I lost myself...I became a doormat.
Pain is an inevitable part of life. People disagreeing with what you do, say or think, is also inevitable.
Kindness is action without malice, without vindictiveness, or revenge. Kindness is also understanding that you are where you are and things will make you angry, upset, or sad, and setting your boundaries without hate or all the other emotions which may cause us to lash out, especially fear, is kindness to yourself.
Kindness is understanding that others struggle with these things as well and not judging them, just as you hope not to be judged in moments you would have chosen differently.
We've all made mistakes. And just because you know better now doesn't mean someone else isn't where you once were. Most of us don't learn by osmosis. Let people be themselves if you want to be yourself.
True kindness is walking your path without making other peoples struggles your own.
~ Kindness must be to all, otherwise it is to none.

Three Years
1 March 2025

Three years ago today
I set out on my way
To be with the man of my dreams.

Three years in the past
I hoisted my mast
And set sail on uncharted seas.

Now, three years later
I’m in love with a waiter
Whose devotion equals my own.

With loyalty and trust —
An absolute must —
We made each other’s hearts our home.

There is so much synchronicity in this life, and it is so easy to overlook. Even while I'm finding more, old ones come back... not to haunt me, but to teach me. I will come back to this story but there is so much to unpack here in the events that have thusfar unfolded, and I dare say, are still unfolding...

Author Highlights/Musical Year in Review:

January 2024 - Worked with Hannah, my wonderful editor and good friend who helped me get ready for my first publication.

7 February 2024 - Uploaded my first publication to Amazon - Because I Dreamed of You, A Story in Poetry. Compiled for Jarom, the love of my life and man of my dreams as a present on his birthday a short time before. (I also turned 50....who says you are ever too old?)

11 February 2024 Revisions, revisions, revisions...review, review, review, if such a little book takes so much, what's going to happen with my 300+ page book?

28 February 2024 - Travel to Eureka, CA. Yes it was for a concert but I must give a shout out to Nils from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, probably one of the biggest bibliophiles I have ever known, who has been so supportive of my writing!

4 March 2024 Boise, ID Sleepytime Gorilla Museum again.
5 March 2024 SLC, UT Sleepytime Gorilla Museum once again, shout out to Carla for wanting to steal my book from Nils to read it!

6 March 2024 My amazing editor took time out of her already busy schedule editing and writing and working on her own trilogy books to make a video promoting my first release.

15 March 2024 Joined my editor for her book release. So much to learn from others going through this same process.

29 April 2024 Received the cover artwork from my daughter.

7 May 2024 Found out a friend had passed away when I went to reach out about using his name in preparation to publish my book.

24 May 2024 It took me forever to get a copy to my editor...

30 May 2024 Words of encouragement from my editor about having necessary conversations.

31 May 2024 Fort Hall, ID Slaughter concert and discussion with Dana and Mark about the book.

24 July 2024 Faun Fables (Nils & family) Just a shout out to absolutely fantastic people who have been supportive from the beginning. I had given them the first chapter to my book a year before and they read it together while on the road.

28 July 2024 Uploaded Mixed Tap Side 1: Finding sLaughter into Amazon for review... the night before starting a new job.

2 August 2024 Conversation with my editor in which I realized I had completely forgotten about uploading my book. Found out it was now live and almost hyperventilated.

13 August 2024 Meeting with Jen, owner of Lounge at the End of the Universe. A huge supporter of my book who made a list of things for me to do to get it out there and booked us a trip to go sell the book at a Slaughter show in Vegas.

19 August 2024 Conversation with Dana to get permission to create a special edition cover and permission for it to be sold at the merch booth. Jordan assisted with perfecting the creation.

21 August 2024 Flights and hotel booked for Slaughter in Vegas on 13 September.

1 September 2024 - Missoula, MT, helping family... it was wonderful to be there to watch my book arrive in the mail and my uncle steal it from my aunt to read it.

10 September 2024 Postponement of Vegas trip....(I hate cancelling but sometimes life is what happens while you make other plans.)

9 October 2024 - SLC, UT, Free Salamander Exhibit (Nils other, other band) Gave Nils a copy of Mixed Tape.

10 October 2024 - Boise, ID, Free Salamander Exhibit, gave Nils a ride and spent half an hour being interviewed about my book and events in it. Really my first interview. Shout out to Michael, Dan and Carla for all trying to steal my book from Nils on the overnight bus ride!

11 October 2024 Back to Utah, Bear Lake to see my editor give her keynote speech at Bridget Cook-Burch's writer's retreat where it really all began to happen for me.

26 October 2024 - Seattle, WA, Slaughter and Great White show at The Angel of the Winds casino where the guys made it possible for me to sell my book at the merch booth for the first time. Shout out to my daughter Ariana and Barbara, one of my best friends and fellow compatriot in many of the adventures in my book -our story- for joining me in this new experience! Shout out to Dana for always supporting me! Shout out to Jeff for making it happen! Shout out to Dan, the merch man for Great White who jumped onboard fully with helping me sell copies! Shout out to Chris for being so encouraging! So many people who were interested in my story and especially one lovely lady, intent on buying a copy, who even asked to take a picture with me,

9 November 2024 - Received an email from Theresa, the lovely lady who wanted a picture from the merch booth. She had read my book and gave a glowing review. My first review from someone who didn't know me previously.

22 November 2024, Found some last minute tix to the TSO show here in Boise, then managed to finagle my way backstage to see this beautiful man and give him a copy of my book!

December 2024 Making plans for the new year and how to get better at promoting my book on all this social media stuff and planning for upcoming shows where the special edition will be available at the merch booth of select Slaughter shows.

C-ya all in 2025!!
