🌕✨ Tonight’s Full Moon is The Big Moon ✨🌕
The last full moon of the year is known by the Abenaki as The Big Moon. Across cultures, December’s moon carries many names: the Cold Moon, the Long Nights Moon, and the Storytelling Moon.

In the legend of the Big Moon, when Oh-zee-ho-zo finished shaping the land, he came to rest on Lake Champlain. There he began making mountains, with waters flowing between them to form the lake. It is said he came full circle—just as this moon completes the circle of seasons on Old Turtle’s back.

This story is beautifully told in the children’s poetry book Thirteen Moons on Turtle’s Back, which shares how the thirteen scales on Old Turtle’s shell hold the key to the thirteen cycles of the moon and the changing seasons.
