Hard to believe it’s already that time!! Come join our competition dance family!!!
‼️2026-27 MDA Competition Team Tryouts Information‼️**form attached at the bottom of this post
👀 There is a TON of info listed here, so please read ALL THE WAY THROUGH (at least twice) to make sure you don’t miss anything!
It’s that time again!!! Anyone interested in trying out for team placements is more than welcome to join our dance family! Before you do though, please understand that this is a huge commitment!!!
Our dance season lasts from August through June/July! You are REQUIRED to be at all competitions and participate in the opening number for ALL recital shows. You should plan for at least one weekend per month for competitions during the months of January through June. Typically showcase is in January or February, with competitions in February, March, April, recital in May, and Nationals in June/July.
Students are REQUIRED to attend weekly classes and the MANDATORY technique/skills classes. Excessive absences may result in termination from your groups.
Expected costs for competition team members include prices for tuition, costumes, rhinestones & alterations, warm ups/jackets and backpacks (optional), extra practices, guest choreography, competition entry fees, plus travel costs, end of the year Boot Camps (prep for nationals), end of the year festivities including our Annual Swim Party & Prom.
Again, this is a huge commitment, especially to your team and their families! Each member pays a lot of money per competition. You must put in the work!!! If you would like or need more information, you can reach out to me!
The dates for this year’s tryouts will be in May 21st!!! Tryouts will start at 4:00 for the minis/petites and Juniors. We hope to start Teens/Seniors by 6:00. Times could change slightly depending on how many sign up.
You must attend tryout clinics to learn the material. If and only if someone is unable to attend this week, will we consider a second round of tryouts.
TRYOUT DATES:
May 19-21
Practice clinics to learn the material will be the first 2 days with tryouts on the 21st.
Times for practice clinics will start around 3:45-4:00.
Genres exact times for these days will be determined as soon as we see the interest level for each.
◽️Cost per person for tryouts is as follows
◽️discounts will be given for siblings
$50- if trying out for one genre
$70- two genres
$90- three genres
$110- four genres
$130- five genres
$150- six genres
Reminder that these costs help to pay our instructors, as well as our judges.
❇️ Genres available for students to try out for include: Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, and Hip Hop.
For tryouts, students must wear form fitting clothing (preferably all BLACK; b***y shorts or leggings and a bra top or a fitted tank)!
🟥Note concerning levels/ages. The Junior (ages 9-12) and Senior (Ages 13 and up) Levels will learn the SAME routines across all genres. Routines will be choreographed/taught at the Intermediate to Advanced level. This gives everyone in this age group the chance to be challenged and placed on teams appropriately.
🟥The Mini/Petite (Ages 8 and Under) Level will be choreographed/taught at the Beginner to Intermediate level.
🟥As always, anyone that wishes to try out for a different age group, whether it’s an age up or down, is more than welcome to. An example of this may include an 8 year old that has taken dance for several years that may want to try out with the 9 year olds. Or Vice versa, a 9 or 10 year old that has only danced a couple of years may wish to try out with the Petites.
🟥In some cases, a 9 year old may get the bump down from the judges to perform with the petites, just like an 8 year old trying out with the Petites may get a bump up to perform with the Juniors?! It’s all based on each individual’s performance/technical abilities.❤️
🟥 We stated last year concerning line, but since our team has grown tremendously and we do want the best for everyone, we want to state it here as well. This year, we are encouraging you to try out for more than what you “want.” Reason being, there may not be a group for you depending on age/level. Statement: Just because you try out for that genre, doesn’t mean you will for sure make the team for that genre. There is an option on the form to list in order your favorite genre to least favorite genre. This is so that just in case there isn’t a team for a genre you chose, there are other options for you to be in groups. Again, we encourage you to try out for more than what you normally would, just in case this situation arises.
Please note: judges’ opinions and scores will play a huge part in team placements, but we will also be considering the teachers’ recommendations for grouping. We’ve been telling the students all year that their work ethic, attitude in class and at competitions, as well as their dedication to the team plays a huge factor in where they are placed. Think of this as a job interview with references. ☺️
We may also take into consideration the judges’ opinions for pairing for duet/trios (if you don’t already have one planned out).
We are super excited for our new season! Results for teams will be posted after nationals. 🩷
