Painted Draft Works

Painted Draft Works Halo's a painted draft horse. She works for a living painting beautiful art. Eventually she and most of her herd were dispersed to other homes.

Halo was born in Tallahassee, FL and grew up happy in a large herd of horses enjoying life in the Sunshine State. Halo found herself in a small herd of two in Monticello where she met her human Michelle. Together the two of them helped Halo find and embrace her artistic passion. When not painting, Halo can be found napping under the giant oak tree with her precocious friend Grace.

An interesting thing happened when Vicke McCall came by to pick up her painting from Halo--she saw one horse in it and I saw a different one. Which one(s) do you see?

I'm so honored that one of my fabulous friends, Vicke McCall, bought one of Halo's paintings! Vicke is the bodywork and training genius behind Equine Performance Solutions, and I cannot recommend her expertise highly enough.

Finally made it by to pick up my painting painted by Halo Painted Draft Works🥰
I love it and the artist was kind enough to take a picture with me 😊
Go check out her gallery! 👩‍🎨🎨

“Landscape” was the fourth or fifth painting that Halo and I created. In the beginning of our painting career, Halo would paint the furthest away from my hand, so I needed to constantly turn the painting to get paint coverage over the entire canvas. On this painting I decided to use that to my advantage, and we worked green while I held the painting on one short side, then gave her blue and held the painting on the opposite side. Halo covers the canvas more completely now, so we couldn’t recreate this effect today without blocking off some canvas. A truly unique painting! 11” x 14” 3/4 inch stretched canvas for $20.

Today was a banner day for Halo! She painted without her emotional support horse Grace! I usually have Grace locked up in her stall, which is opposite the camera, when Halo and I paint. Today, Halo came to the barn to greet me, and I didn’t even realize how momentous this occasion was until I was putting everything away! Painting has really given Halo so much more confidence and self-assurance!

While reviewing footage to use in my “How to make Halo’s brushes” series, I found this clip. I love the enthusiasm Halo exhibits, trying to grab things out of my hand and get things going! No doubt Halo enjoys her art!

The length of the brush is pivotal, but the materials and design of the brush are equally important.
