This was from Illuminate Mississippi page:
Catching Cookie Wu headlining Martin's Downtown was breathtaking to witness. The strength this band shows as one, while still continuing to grow, makes it pretty damn hard to deny the talent standing on that stage.
If you remember, Lillie Rhoden sang Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” for her American Idol audition last year and earned her ticket to Hollywood. But watching CookieWu perform it now makes me think Idol only got part of the picture. They saw Lillie. They didn’t get the full-blown effect of what happens when this entire band locks in together.
These guys have old souls that reach for love and understanding through their music, but they’re also still young. They’ve pounded the pavement, put in the work and continued pushing themselves to get better. You can hear it. You can see it. And when they’re all working together, you can damn sure feel it.
By the end of the night, I’d lost my voice and just about every ounce of energy I had because CookieWu does not let me stand still. Their music gets me off my feet. But underneath all that movement is what keeps pulling me back to them in the first place.
I’ve heard heartache. I’ve heard grit. I’ve heard growth, pain and love. Their songs FEEL.
That’s what I want from original music.
So if this cover of “Rebel Yell” catches your ear, don’t stop here. Go listen to CookieWu’s original work and follow them so you know where they’re playing next.
SO...
Be sure to catch them at River Bend House of Brews LLC tomorrow night!
Let's rock the blue house!
