The afternoons Open Trot was carded as the Terry Grey Trot, Terry has been a faithful fan of Harness Racing and the Mighty M going on 40 years. After raising a successful family, Terry and his lovely wife Ramona are moving to Florida. It was only fitting that Terry’s favorite driver Jimmy Taggart Jr. would take the race named in his honor with KJ Title. The Gary Messenger trained son of EL Titan has now extended his win streak to 4 straight after his wire to wire win over the favorite DC Anna (B. Aldrich Jr.) and Barn Credit (M Merton) in 1:56.2- $4.42, in the process the 4 year old mare picked up a new lifetime speed badge.

Also on the car were 2 divisions of the second leg of the NAADA, the 2 local boys took home top honors. Alan Schwartz took the first heat driving Everybodyluvjoe by a head in 1:59.4 - $ 5.48 and Scott Keppler took the other aboard Baby Tao in 1:59.1 – $13.84. Rock A Honey (T. Merton) $2.54 made it 2 straight for trainer Veronica Merton and owner Chris Elia in the finale with a season best win time of 1:55.4

Trainers Danny Gill and Gary Messenger each had doubles on the 11 race card. Mike Merton led all drives with a triple and Jim Taggart Jr had a double.

The 11 race card generated $576,937.47, which equates to a per race average of $52,448.818

The afternoons Open Pace attracted a full gate of entries, Soho Skyfall A was starting from post position 2 and didn’t work too hard to make the front and showed the way with fractions of 28, 56.3. At the half Lupa and Smoking Hot Dude (R. Cushing) got underway and started the outer tier. Approaching the next station, the leader Soho Skyfall A (G. Merton) was suddenly in distress and became rough gaited and left the race course also forcing Scribblers (B. Aldrich) who was right behind him to do the same, ending both of their afternoons. Lupa took advantage of the situation as the time timer read 1:24.1 and powered home a winner in 1:53.1 -$8.08, Smoking Hot Dude was second followed by Rusty Beach (T. Merton) It was the winners third win on the year for trainer Art Green.

Coral Bella enjoyed the drop in class for trainer - driver Jason Ricco, getting the 5 length win in 1:58.4 – 3.82. Even a blind squirrel can find a nugget, Snowport (T. Merton) who had been 0-56, finally find the winners circle from post 7 no less to eek out a win in 1:57.4-$19.80 for sixth leading trainer Greg Decker Jr. Divine Cosmos scored a wire to wire win for trainer Peter Pellegrino in 1:55.2 -$4.00, it was the first win on the year for the Jay Appelblatt owned son of Lazarus

Greg Merton reeled off 3 successive winners in the middle of the card aboard, Lupa in the Open, Divine Cosmos 1:55.2 & $4.00 & Lighting Fury breaking her maiden in a 15 length romp in 1:58 - $2.50, giving trainer Victoria Stratton her first Monti training win.

The 9 race card generated a handle of$429,774 for a per race handle of $47,752.00.

Lucky Ellie (M. Merton) got a new lifetime record in the cards first race in 2:01.2 -$ 8.50, the 3 YO filly by Devious Man is trained by Paul Roy. Celia Bayama made it 2 in a row after nosing out Gerry Camo in a photo in 1:57.1 - $ 15.18 for trainer – driver Bruce Aldrich Jr. - After leading the pack by almost 10 lengths down the backside Mucho Macho hung on for the win in 1:59.4 - $4.62 for Owner- Trainer-Driver Jason Ricco.

Bruce Aldrich Jr had both a driving and training double, Mike Merton bagged a driving double.

The first 3 races were chalky with low payouts, that was until race 4 when the 32-1 Little Admiral scored for Bryan Quevedo and trainer Cody Houghtaling in 1:57.1 -$66.38 Jim Taggarts hot streak continued to today’s hot muggy 11 race card where he reeled off another driving triple aboard Crazy Train 1:54.3 - $11.90, Washeduponabeach 1:57.3 - $2.64 and classy old war horse Nui Be Den N in the finale.

Rock A Honey regained his winning form with a 9 length win 1:56.2 -$2.14 with Tom Merton aboard for trainer Veronica Merton and Owner Chris Elia.

Tommy Merton had a driving double as did Kyle Dibenedetto who scored back to back wins

Makin Magic Tonight Gets Lucky in the Open Trot
Today’s racing featured an 11-race card, highlighted by the $9,000 Open Trot, last week’s winner of the Open, Cotton Candy Cutie was scratched, whittling the field down to 7. Starting from post position 6 was Makin Magic Tonight (R. Silvestri III) who left alertly to make the top. From there the 7-year-old Kadabra mare cut fractions of 28.4,59. At the half Prince Archie (T. Merton) and Grey Clouds (R. Cushing) got underway and continued down the backside the pack hit the next station at 1:28.2. Turning for home Woodside Genius went up the passing lane with Makin Magic Tonight in the middle of the track. In a tight photo Makin Magic Tonight got the win over Prince Archie with Woodside Genius getting third in 1:58.1 -$7.14. It was the winner’s second consecutive win in the open class for trainer Jenna Cornelison.

Also on tap were 2 events for the NAADA series, Robert Ciavardini took the first heat aboard My Secret Ability in 1:59.1 for trainer Danny Gill. Yogi Sheridan took the other event with the Pete Pellegrino trained Southside Bar in 1:59 - $5.40. Highborn (J. Taggart Jr.) picked up a new lifetime mark with his win in 1:53.2 -$14.64 for owner Brandon Parker and trainer Zeke Parker. Queen Of Egypt (M. Merton) who seems to prefer Monticello Raceway scored in a 8 length romp for trainer Lisa Martin in 1:57.2 - $2.10.

Jim Taggart Jr was on a tear at the start of the day, reeling off 3 wins in the first 4 races, each of the Merton brothers Greg, Mike and Tommy all recorded driving wins.

The cards featured race was the $9,000 Open Pace with a stacked field of 8 starters, the morning line and post time favorite was GDS Thunder GB scoring from post position 3 with Mike Merton in the bike. Sauvignon Blue Chip (K. Dibenedetto) retook the leads from GDS Thunder GB past the opening panel of 28 and continued to show the way at the half in 57.1. KJ Hunter (J. Taggart Jr.) was the first to start the outer flow and came first over with Smoking Hot Dude (R. Cushing) in tow. Sauvignon Blue Chip still had the lead in the paddock turn passing that station in 1:26 with KJ Hunter ranging on the outside to apply pressure. Fanning off the last turn horses were 5-6 wide, midway down the lane it was anyone’s race, Lupa (R. Silvestri II) and Rusty Beach (T. Merton) were flying on the outside in a blanket finish. It took a photo to determine the winner, KJ Hunter just barely held on in 1:55.4 -$19.60, Lupa got up for second with Rusty Beach rounding out the top 3. For KJ Hunter it was his fifth win on the year for trainer Gary Messenger

Buy In (M. Merton) put on a strong performance, winning by open lengths in a swift 1:53.3, for a new seasonal best winning time.
Jim Taggart Jr. & Gary Messenger teamed up for back to back wins KJ Hunter in the Open Pace and a 6 length winner with KJ Woogie in 2:00 - $4.22 for his first lifetime win

Navagio N (M. Merton) went wire to wire in 1:56.2 - $3.48 for his fourth seasonal win for trainer Ken Koch.

Mike Merton and Scott Keppler both registered driving doubles.

Where’s Drogon 1:58.1 - $16.90 notched his first win of the year this afternoon as did trainer Michael Gilmour with Shane Taggart in the bike. Sweet Parlay (R. Silvestri III) 1:56.3- $16.86 also got his first win of the 2026 season.
