Andrea is a current, and lifelong resident of Montgomery County. She upholds her Filipino culture through her leadership position in the Filipino Cultural Association (FCA) at UMD and through learning about Philippine history.

“A majority of my family is back home in the Philippines and the community around me wasn’t filled with Filipinos, so it made me feel out of touch with my culture. I know now that wasn’t the case because what does being a “true Filipino” or “authentic Filipino” even mean? - Andrea

Rebecca is a current resident of MoCo and has lived in the area since she was young. As she explores her Filipino identity, she continues pushing herself to learn more by asking her mom language questions, and keeping up with current events in the PH.

“I’ve been taking more initiative by reading and consuming as much from activists and people in the Philippines, like Maria Ressa - especially with the election that just happened. Even keeping up with Asian-American activists in general, that’s really how I’ve been learning.” - Rebecca
