VIVEN VIVEN is your online photo exhibition. We expose the beautiful lives of people from war-affected areas through photography. http://www.vivenpictures.com

Images of bloodshed by war and disasters dominate the news of our everyday lives whereas the beauty found in the world is very rarely shown. Too often the media only paints a picture of sadness, fear, and pain. Rarely are we shown hope. VIVEN aims to change this negative mindset through photography and stories. VIVEN's audience will be exposed to a powerful side of these conflicted regions and gai

n a more complete understanding and appreciation towards the situation. Our aim is to benefit the people of these areas by insisting on global recognition of the beauty in their culture and potentially empower their economy through the promotion of locally produced goods.

A genocide doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years. Racial and religious hatred are the grounds on which perpetrators commit genocide. Our silence and denial is what allows them to do so.

The warning signs are all there for mass atrocities facing Hazaras in Afghanistan.

Current occupation: raise awareness about this important issue from the tops of mountains.

The Hazaras of Afghanistan are at risk of genocide. Pacifist, democratic and pro women’s education, they are viewed as a problem and an enemy of the Afghan state. A genocide happens when the world doesn’t know about it, or turn a blind eye entirely.

Make a sign and take it with you to your next hike. Raise awareness. 🙏🏽

Diary from one of the fifty Hazara students who were killed in the attack on their classroom in Kabul. Most of them were girls.

Repost from .zawulistani

From Marzia’s diary [translated]:

I went out for the first time after one week of the Taliban takeover. I felt scared and unsafe during the entire time I was out. The environment felt full of fear and terror. I returned home after buying Elif Shafak’s The Architect's Apprentice. I realized how much I love being in the bookstore & enjoy reading and skimming books."

Marzia was killed along with 48 (confirmed so far. It is feared that the number might rise due to severe injuries of so many) Hazara teenagers—mostly girls—while taking a practice exam on Sep 30. She’s no more there to read your () other works.

1st Picture: Marzia and a page of her diary
2nd Picture: Marzia & her cousin Haajar. The two were close friends, grew up together, were sitting beside each other in the classroom and were buried beside each other.

Definition of a good day: 1. Ride incredible trails in Stowe… 2. Strike alliances with the masters behind their creation to bring their expertise and support to Afghanistan. In that order.

of and I had a great ride and conversation yesterday to figure out ways the town of Stowe and its mountain biking community could support . Think sister cities. Very thrilled to see how this partnership will grow and unfold.

It is part of Mountain Bike Afghanistan’s mission to connect people across borders and cultures for their shared love of cycling. And this partnership is the first real step towards that. Psyched!✌🏽

One can feel that vivid childhood, the energy, the naughtiness, the unspoken dreams in this scene. In every single one of these children, there is more than just attending the morning assembly line; deep in them there is an embedded hope that their future will be different than the past. Because unlike their fathers, they have a chance!
