✨ A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE HOLLYWOOD THEATRE ✨

September 1st marked a very special moment for the Hollywood Theatre as Jerry Lee officially turned the theatre over to Wyatt Haugen, Founder and Chief Artistic Officer of Starlight On Main Theatre Company, opening the door to an exciting new chapter for this historic space.

For years, Jerry and RuthAnn Lee poured so much of their time, energy, and heart into the Hollywood. RuthAnn, especially, had a deep love for the theatre and a passion for seeing it remain an important part of our community. We are incredibly grateful for everything they have invested into this building and for the care they have given it over the years.

Now, Wyatt and the Board of Directors of Starlight On Main Theatre Company are honored to carry that legacy forward.

The vision for the Hollywood is a big one — to honor and preserve the history and character that make this building so special, while breathing new life into it for the generations ahead. The goal is to create a space that continues to bring people together through live theatre, movies, music, community events, and so much more.

A huge thank you also goes to Snow Kreilich Architects for working alongside Wyatt as we begin imagining what the future of the Hollywood can become. There are some incredible ideas beginning to take shape, and we are excited to thoughtfully blend the history of this building with everything that lies ahead.

September 1st truly felt like the passing of the torch — honoring everything that came before while looking ahead to everything still to come.

The Hollywood has been part of this community for generations.

Now, it’s time for its next act. 🎭✨

We’re excited to invite our community to a special public event celebrating the change of ownership and the future of Hollywood on Main!

For generations, this historic theatre has been part of the story of Montevideo. Now, we’re looking ahead to its next chapter—one filled with live theatre, children discovering the stage through Rising Stars Children’s Theater, community events, creativity, and new memories made right here in our hometown.

💙 Today is National Nonprofit Day! 🎭✨

Today, we celebrate the organizations built around something bigger than themselves — community, connection, and making a difference.

At Starlight On Main Theatre Company, our nonprofit is built on a simple belief: the arts belong in our community.

We are here to continue helping theatre and performing arts happen right here in Montevideo — where local actors can step onto the stage, children can discover theatre for the first time, musicians can share their talents, and audiences can come together to experience something special right here at home.

And now, that dream is growing even bigger. ❤️

We are planning to make a permanent home right here in the community we call home — a space that would allow us to expand into community theatre, live music, children’s programming, movies, special events, and the performing arts for generations to come.

None of this happens because of one person.

It happens because actors volunteer their time.
It happens because musicians share their talents.
It happens because businesses sponsor our productions.
It happens because volunteers build, paint, sew, usher, sell concessions, and lend a hand wherever it’s needed.
And it happens because our community continues to believe in what we’re building.

On National Nonprofit Day, we simply want to say:

Thank you to every patron who has purchased a ticket.
Thank you to every actor who has stepped onto our stage.
Thank you to every volunteer, donor, sponsor, musician, artist, board member, and community member who has helped us keep dreaming.

We are still a young nonprofit with some very big dreams ahead of us — but that’s exactly what community theatre is about.

Join SMAC for our Needs Assessment Listening Tour!

As we approach an annual season of strategic planning, we conduct focus groups to make sure we're listening to and supporting our communities to the best of our abilities.

We use this information to inform our biennial strategic plan that will be developed between January -March 2027.

Over the next three months, we'll gather with organizations, individuals artists, and the arts-interested public to discuss the state of the arts in our region. Everyone will have the chance to offer their perspective on funding and needs in southwestern Minnesota.

🎭⭐We are so thankful to the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council for supporting Starlight on Main Theatre and Rising Stars Children’s Theatre!

Their support helps us give children the chance to step onstage, try something new, build confidence, develop new skills, and be part of a creative experience they will remember.

Theatre brings people together in a special way. It gives young performers a place to grow and express themselves, creates opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the arts, and allows our community to experience live theatre close to home.

🎭 An Update from the Starlight Family

It is with heavy hearts that we have made the difficult decision to officially cancel our rescheduled performance of Dear Evan Hansen due to continued cast member illness.

This was not an easy decision. Our cast has poured their hearts into this production, and they were looking forward to sharing this story with all of you. However, the health and well-being of our actors will always come first. Community theatre is built on people, and taking care of those people is more important than any performance.

To everyone who purchased tickets, supported this production, or planned to join us, we are truly sorry for this disappointment. Your understanding, kindness, and encouragement mean more than you know.

Our box office will be reaching out to all ticket holders regarding refunds over the next few days. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for continuing to stand behind Starlight On Main Theatre Company. While this chapter didn’t end the way we had hoped, we know the curtain will rise again soon, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the Hollywood for the next story we have to tell. ❤️

IMPORTANT UPDATE: FINAL PERFORMANCE CANCELED

We are extremely saddened to announce that our rescheduled final performance of Dear Evan Hansen must be canceled. Unfortunately, our cast member is still ill and unable to perform.

Anyone who previously purchased tickets for the Sunday, July 26 at 2:30 p.m. performance may contact the box office to receive a refund.
