Super Nintendo rescue! This one had some wonky video going on. Luckily it just needed the capacitors in the video circuit replaced and it's back in action. 😎

NEO-GEO MVS PART 2

There were a few things I didn't get to touch on in yesterday's video.

I wanted to show how to access the HUGE cartridges that go into this thing. Look at the size of em! Like the VHS tapes of video game carts.

Another cool thing I love about this cabinet is the memory card slot! A lot of games were able to let you save level progress or high score data so you could take your memory card to any arcade with a Neo-Geo MVS and pick up where you left off.

And it's got a headphone jack for blasting all that 32 bit sound right into your ear holes!

ON THIS DAY
APRIL 26th 1990

The Neo-Geo MVS releases!!

The MVS (Multi Video System) was one of the first arcade machines with swappable ROM based games, allowing arcade operators of the day to be able to order a simple cartridge when a game came out as opposed to a whole new cabinet. The system released with one or two slot variants, but four and even six slot systems would come out allowing operators to load up half a dozen games in one machine.

The MVS launched with a handful of games including Magician Lord. It would go on to be home to many standout series including King of Fighters and Metal Slug.

Game Gear refurbishment. 😎

I started tinkering with retro games on Game Gears back when you could find busted ones for $5 a pop. Working on one these days is nice and relaxing, takes me back to when I first started.

This was such a cool system to work on and learn about. It came in for a recap and refurbishment. It also had an issue where one of the keys was constantly registering as being pressed in so the keyboard membrane had to be replaced. Thing is, there are no readily available aftermarket keyboard membranes for this system so a batch had to be custom made just for this repair. We used one replacement and the remainder will go out to other MSX enthusiasts.
