On April 12, 2023, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, U.S. District 19 Congressman Jimmy Panetta, Mark Strudley, executive director of the Pajaro Regional Flood Management Agency, and Tommy Williams, a deputy with the Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco district, spoke up about long and short term goals to modernize the Pajaro River Levee.
In this video, they discuss federal efforts to reduce the risk for the underserved communities of Watsonville and Pajaro and assert actionable steps to make meaningful change. After thousands of residents in the Pajaro community evacuated due to the levee break a month ago, it's time to take care of them and ensure their safety for years to come! Communities like this one are the backbone of the agricultural stability in Monterey County. They provide food to our local community. They supply food to the entire country. Their livelihood directly affects us. So, with all that said, we have a call to action. To donate for the storm relief, please visit www.cfmco.org.
By loving our agricultural communities, we connect the farm to our tables and thrive together. Thank you to Arts Council for Monterey County for sponsoring this video!
