Exciting updates at the Montello Theater! 🍿🎬

We’ve refreshed our blog with all the latest news, showtimes, and behind-the-scenes info. C

We’ve also redesigned our flyers! They’re brighter, easier to read, and packed with more information. We hope you love them as much as we do.

Most of all, we want to say THANK YOU to everyone who comes out to the theater. Your support means the world to us.

Here’s something many people don’t know: the movie studios take up to 75% of every ticket sold. With our tickets at just $5, that leaves very little for the theater. Nearly all of our income comes from concessions.

So every bag of popcorn, every drink, every candy you grab from our concession stand helps keep our doors open and our ticket prices low for the whole community.

🎬 Rent the Montello Theater! 🎬

We've loved seeing so many of you rent out the whole theater for your own private events! Birthday parties, anniversaries, gatherings, game nights, or just a fun night with friends watching your favorite movie on the big screen. It's been a joy to share this historic space with our community, and the response has been amazing.

You can bring your PlayStation, stream Netflix or any streaming service, play a DVD, or bring whatever you'd like to enjoy on the big screen, with seating for up to 150 guests.

Hey guys, Jen here! Have you ever stood on the front porch of the Historic Dodge House and looked out at the granite quarry waterfalls? Frank Dodge worked the Montello granite quarry back in the 1880s, and that porch view is still one of my favorite spots in town.

Our history tours take about two hours. You'll walk through the house the Dodge family called home starting in 1893, from the porches to the kitchen to the rooms upstairs, and hear the real Dodge family stories, including how Frank ran the Dodge Opera House that is now the Montello Theater.

Fall is the perfect time to come see it. Grab a friend or bring the whole family!

Hey guys, Jen here for Montello Theater (formerly the Dodge Opera House)!

Found a fun one from the Portage Daily Register, Thursday, April 24, 1913. A traveling troupe called the Haines-Price stock company was booked for a whole week at the opera house in Portage, but the paper says they "didn't get the business" and played to rows of empty seats. So the manager closed them out after just three nights, and the whole company hopped the afternoon train to Montello to "entertain the people of the Granite City at the Dodge opera house for a week." 😄

I love this one because it shows what a big deal our little theater was back then. Traveling stock companies rode the rails from town to town, and Frank Dodge's opera house was a stop worth making. That same stage is still here today, and so is the Dodge family's home, and we get to share both of them with you.

Christmas is coming to the Historic Dodge House! 🎄

I can't wait for the holidays here. Built in 1893, this beautiful home has seen over 130 Christmases, and I love imagining what they must have looked like. Hopefully something a lot like this!

We have so much planned for the season:

🎃 What a night at the Montello Theater! 🎃

Our pumpkin carving party was a blast! We had about 16 friends and neighbors join us, and it was absolutely amazing to see everyone gathered together, laughing, and getting creative with their pumpkins.

A special highlight: we got some snuggle time with an adorable little baby boy who stole the show (and a few hearts). 🥰

Thank you to everyone who came out and made it such a fun evening. We hope you had as great a time as we did! Stay tuned for more events coming soon to the Montello Theater. 🍂🧡
