PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
FROM THE WOMEN OF WINDSOR
Attention, citizens of Windsor — and any portly knight who may be listening.
If you have recently received a love letter declaring your irresistible charm, your “fine wit,” or the “fire” in your eyes — do not flatter yourself.
We, the merry wives of Windsor, are aware of your schemes. We have read your letters. We have compared notes. And we have made our plans accordingly.
To Sir John Falstaff and any like-minded rogue: the good wives of this town are not idle, lonely, or easily deceived. They are sharp, loyal, and — frankly — far more organized than you.
To jealous husbands everywhere: your wife is not the problem. Take a breath. Trust her. You will save yourself considerable embarrassment in the forest at midnight.
And to young lovers seeking to marry for affection rather than arrangement: take heart. Windsor rewards the sincere.
In closing, please be advised that the woods near Windsor are not a safe location after dark, particularly if you are dressed as a fairy, or a horned deity. You will be pinched!
