In case you missed the announcement, we opened up a third Watercolor Fundamentals class on October 18th from 12:30p to 2:30p. There are a few seats remaining in both of these classes. DM to RSVP for either class or both if you're obsessed with watercolor like us!

For those wandering about our advanced class. Please do not be trepidatious when you see "advanced", this class is simply a skills class that will help you further develop your techniques and abilities within in the world of watercoloring.

This week our Urban Sketching group met inside the shop. You have to get creative when it's 101 outside. We all chose an area in the shop and sketched, what a great evening of conversation, and creativity.

Stay tuned for some Urban Sketching announcements coming soon in regards to a possible time change moving forward.

Our totally free Urban Sketching Club meets the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. It's open to all. (16 and under require accompaniment). No RSVP, simply show up with your sketching supplies.

What an absolutely incredible Watercolor Fundamentals Class! Many of our attendees had never worked with watercolor before and all of them did a phenomenal job!

Can you believe it, we got a proper open/closed sign! AND a street sign!
Kinda crazy what happens when you put your mind to things and don't get distracted.

The community has spoken, swipe to read some of the reviews our totally free Urban Sketching Club has received recently.

Our Urban Sketching Club meets this Sunday at 5pm. Simply bring your sketchbook, a great attitude and get ready to see Monrovia like never before as we continue to explore our rich history, architecture, and landscape.

The club is FREE and open to all (ages 16 and under require accompaniment but are more than welcome).

We hope to see you this Sunday at 5pm

Spent today designing a new folder for Quair, and trying not to melt (it's so hot)

Brought out this little brass caliper that was a gift from my very first engineering job.
It's surprisingly useful (and yes the google eye is necessary for proper function 😂 ).

Very busy week for us, but that didn't stop our Urban Sketchers from getting together to slow down and create.

This week we sketched a piece of Monrovia History, Henrietta's Leven Oaks. First opening in 1911 as a hotel for tourists this now assisted living center offers a glimpse into Monrovia's rich past.

Join us next time as we continue to sketch and explore more Monrovia history and heritage.

Our Urban Sketching Club is free and open to all, no RSVP required. We meet every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month at 5pm. Bring a sketchbook and meet at Smudges & Scribbles, then enjoy a short walk to a historic location located in Monrovia.

If you're looking for guidance, direction or assistance we're more than happy to offer our talents and advice.

Keep swiping to see the finished result…

The customer was using this pen outside and dropped it nib down on the concrete
I started by removing the nib to fully inspect the top and bottom

Then using a combo of pliers and a nib shaping block, I was able to get the nib close to perfect…

After shaping and straightening, I used the best tool a pen repairman has, his finger tips. That’s right, finishing touches were done with my finger tips.

I’m very happy with how this one turned out especially considering how distraught the customer was…

As you can see the signature curve was retained. You don’t just make it straight.
