Opus 2 Orchestra

Opus 2 Orchestra Opus 2 is a community based teaching orchestra in Monroeville PA. Age, background, & skill inclusive.

Opus 2 was founded by Eugene Reichenfeld more than 50 years ago as the Wilkinsburg Junior Symphony and Reichenfeld Sinfonietta. The group was renamed Opus 2 in 2005 when David Beswarick, a retired East Allegheny orchestra director and former student of Dr. Reichenfeld's, took up the conducting baton. In 2012, Mairi Cooper, who is orchestra director of Fox Chapel High School and the 2015 Pennsylvan

ia Teacher of the Year, became our conductor. From September 2015 - May 2019, we were under the leadership of Megan Martz, who was the orchestra director at Moon Area Schools. Our current conductor, Emily Barger, came to us in September 2019 after directing the strings program at Norwalk City Schools in Ohio.

Moon Area Music Department invites students in grades 7-12 showing an interest in becoming a music major in college to the annual, "So, You Want to Be a Music Major?" Seminar. Discussion will include a mixture of topics. parents are also encouraged to attend. This year's featured speakers....
