The 2024 NATS Southern Region Student Auditions showcased breathtaking artistry,
with 130 students qualifying for the National Student Auditions (NSA). Many of these
talented singers need financial assistance to take the next step in their journey. 🎶
The **Southern Region Vocal Arts Scholarship Fund** provides $75 grants to eligible NSA applicants, covering their registration fees. **Our goal is to raise $2,500—enough to support 33 students.** If we exceed this, we’ll begin assisting national semi-finalists with travel expenses, ensuring they can compete on the national stage. ✨

In June 2024, ULM VAPA students and voice majors Preston Anderson, Braden Tucker, and James Wright participated in the National Association of Teachers of Singing National Students Auditions in Knoxville, TN. Each of the three students began their audition process in Fall 2023, competing at the regional level to qualify for nationals. After reauditioning at the national level in April 2024, Anderson, Tucker, and Wright were all selected as national semi-finalists, each in two different singing categories based on their year of study and age. As national semi-finalists, they were ranked among the top 12-14 singers in the country in their qualifying categories: an immense accomplishment and honor! Senior vocal performance major, James Wright, won 2nd place nationally in the Hall Johnson Spiritual category. Anderson, Tucker, and Wright are all students of Dr. Claire Vangelisti. Pictured also is Gabe Garcia: senior at Cedar Creek High School, also a national semi-finalists and student of Vangelisti.

Join our chapter of ULM SNATS on February 25, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Northminster Church for a fundraising concert that is sure to entertain audience members of all ages.

Northminster Church is located at 2701 Lamy Lane in Monroe. While there is no fee for entry, we would appreciate any donations.

The University of Louisiana Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts is proud to present Dr. Bianca Jackson, coloratura soprano, in residency from February 25-27. Students will have many opportunities to learn from Jackson during her time at the university through the option of a Masterclass or a Lecture-Recital.

Her Lecture-Recital will explore Black American composer Margaret Bonds’ musical accomplishments, socially focused initiatives, and highlight selected art songs and spirituals in a lecture-recital. By continuing the tradition of spirituals and forging new paths in art song, unique to her cultural influences, Bonds left a lasting contribution.

Jackson’s Masterclass will take place on February 27 at 11:00 am in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall, and her Lecture-Rectial will take place that same evening at 7:30 pm in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. All students and faculty are welcome to attend.

Eleven ULM voice students participated in the Southern Region National Association of Teachers of Singing Student Auditions on 11.9-11.11 at Ouachita Baptist University.

Out of more than 200 students in the ARK/LA/MS, all of our students advanced to the semi-final round of their categories. We're so excited to report that we also had some finalists!

We're so excited to welcome new ULM students to campus during their PREP freshmen orientation session last night! During PREP, we have the opportunity to share about our student chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (or SNATS) with potential new members.

We had three of our hard-working board members present at the event:

A Student NATS (SNATS) Chapter is an organization of students that can meet, hold events and discussions, participate, practice and learn more about voice teaching as a profession.
