The opening ceremony last Friday set the tone for nine days of tradition, artistry, and global connection at the Harry Whitehorse International Wood Sculpture Festival. Artists were introduced, members of the Ho-Chunk Nation were honored, and the festival officially came to life at San Damiano Park.

Since then, sculptors have been working on site daily, alongside cultural demonstrations, music, food, and community programming that continues to evolve throughout the week.

The festival is open every day through June 27 at San Damiano Park in Monona, and there is still plenty of time to visit, watch the artists in action, and explore the grounds.

We’re especially excited to highlight their involvement in bringing the Pachamanca experience to the festival, a traditional Peruvian community feast that celebrates food, culture and connection.

Meet Ihor Tkachivskyi, one of the artists joining us at the Harry Whitehorse International Wood Sculpture Festival.

A Ukrainian sculptor with international experience, Ihor works across sculpture, installation, and design, using materials ranging from wood and bronze to stone, metal, and even ice. His work has been featured in symposia and exhibitions around the world, with pieces held in public collections and sculpture parks across Europe and beyond.

With a practice that spans both contemporary work and large-scale public and religious commissions, Ihor brings a global perspective shaped by years of experience and craftsmanship.
