CALL FOR DIRECTORS!

Manor Mill Playhouse is seeking a director for our Spring production, Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson.

Show dates:
April 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, May 1 & 2 2027
Auditions to take place late January 2027
Rehearsals to start in February 2027. Small stipend provided.

To be considered as a Director for Silent Sky, please submit a proposal as a PDF to [email protected].

Your proposal should include the following:

1. Director Contact Info: Name, email address, phone
2. Your broad artistic vision for the play, including general scenic and production design concepts
3. A general casting vision
4. Answers to the following questions:
- What do you anticipate as the largest production challenge for this play?
- Do you have a production/design staff in mind? (MMPH to have discretion over production team hires)
- How do you approach collaboration with your production/creative team?
5. Your directing resume
6. 2–3 theater references who we may contact (include phone number and email)
7. Anything else you would like us to know about you

We are excited to welcome back Mindie Burgoyne of Chesapeake Ghost Tours for our October Preservation in Practice! Mindie has been leading ghost and spiritual tours immersed in history, both here in Maryland and in Ireland, for many years.

Mindie will share tales of local hauntings, including those at Hampton National Historic site.

*While Preservation in Practice is normally a free event, there is a charge this month in order to cover travel expenses.

These incredible puppets created by Alexandra Taylor joined us for rehearsal on Sunday, bringing one of the most spectacular elements of this show to the stage. You’ll have to see the completed Headless Horseman live—no spoilers here!

Water Wheel Update! Master carpenter Robert Jones has finished building the bottom of the wheel with about 150 white oak boards! And fun fact, the last board was a perfect fit—it didn’t need to be cut down at all.

This week Robert begins the very exciting step of adding the paddles. Donors to the wheel will soon see their engraved plaques on the paddles with their names and messages.

Inside the gear room, Derek is working on motorizing the wheel. It will first require a set of wooden teeth to attach to one of the large gears—and we’ll have big news to share about these teeth coming soon. Keep an eye out of updates!
