Unfortunately we have been forced to postpone the Jack Starrette Memorial next weekend. We had all intentions of being to a point where we could race but we just are not going to be done with the work.

While reshaping and widening the track surface we forced to move and reset the block walls on the back straightaway as well as in turns 3 and 4. We had no choice as these walls were leaning in and were in danger of falling over in some areas. When the walls were removed we also discovered an issue with the poles which hold the catch fencing in place. This is where our supply chain issues have been. Getting the correct type of poles to be used has been tough. We also ordered a metal building to erect for new restrooms in the grandstand area. That building has yet to be delivered as well.

So we have to just give in and postpone the event. We are very sorry to do so. Jack Starrette is very important to us personally and we fully intend to honor him with a rescheduled date when we get to the point where we are fully ready to go. Please be patient with us as we work through this process.

We have lots of great plans and we will see them through.

- New PA wiring and speakers.
- New scoreboard
- Replenished racing surface
- New bathrooms in the grandstands
- New lighting
- New paint
- All new website

These are just some of the things we have on our list. Bear with us as we plan to make this place something we can all be proud of.

We finally have an update to share:

We plan to open up April 29th for OPEN PRACTICE and then on April 30tb we will host the JACK STARRETTE MEMORIAL as planned with the ULTIMATE Super Late Models and 602 Bandit Series. Full details coming. We will also post some photos Wednesday night of some of the projects and changes we are making. Thank you for your patience. We have been continually delayed with material shortages and poor weather. But rest assured we are working as quickly as we can to make Little River Speedway into a true showplace.

Ronnie Powell recently purchased Modoc Raceway and renamed it Little River Speedway. He has big plans for the South Carolina dirt oval.

Georgia Businessman Ronnie Powell Completes Purchase of Modoc Raceway

Appling, Georgia (January 2, 2022) – Ronnie Powell of Appling, Georgia has completed the purchase of Modoc Raceway from longtime owners Jimmy and Ann Cushman. Powell, who has been in and around dirt racing for more than 35 years, has ambitious plans for the 4/10ths of a mile red clay track located just a short distance across the state line from his Georgia home. “I cannot thank Mr. and Mrs. Cushman enough for trusting me to purchase the track and build on what they spent the last several years building. They have done so much for racing and this track. We are going to follow their lead and continue to grow the track into a real showplace for dirt racing.” said Powell.

One of the first orders of business will be rebranding of the track to be known as Little River Speedway. “I just felt like we needed to make a fresh start and create a new beginning for what we plan to do.” Powell said. In addition to the renaming of the track Powell plans to reshape, redesign and transform the racing surface. “We have to get the track to where it is racier. We need to have a surface and shape which can provide two or three grooves for Late Models. And I plan to get it there.” Powell added. Powell will utilize many of the resources which he has available to him through his business RW Powell Construction to achieve his ideas.

The track will maintain a similar special events only type schedule that has been successful in recent years. The first event of the season will be the February 26th Drydene Xtreme Late Model Series event. Support classes on the schedule will be similar as well. The schedule includes a pair of ULTIMATE Series events anchored by the 11th Annual Jack Starrette Memorial, a race which holds special significance for Powell. “I spent a lot of time with Mr. Jack over the years. I traveled with him racing when Randle Chupp was driving his car. And we kept a close relationship until his passing. I learned a lot from Mr. Jack.” Powell said.

Much of the current staffing will stay on in their previous roles under Powell’s ownership. And he will continue to rely on the Cushman’s for guidance in managing the facility. “The Cushman’s and Mike Parkhurst really elevated this track, and they were very successful with their events. We will follow their blueprint and just expand on that as we go. We will have equipment and personnel moving in this week to get started.” Powell concluded.

More information will be released in the days and weeks ahead. Look for an all new website coming soon at www.littleriverspeedway.com as well as all social media platforms. - Media Contact: KELCAR Motorsports Media @gmail.com
