A little over five years ago, I started writing a weekly article called IMPROVactive.

What began as a simple way to reflect on improv and storytelling slowly turned into a weekly practice... sharing lessons about listening, presence, creativity, and the unexpected ways life mirrors improv.

Almost three years ago, I moved the series to Substack, where a new article is released every Tuesday morning.

Tomorrow’s piece will be posted, and I’ll share the link here for anyone who would like to read it.

If you enjoy thoughtful reflections on improv, storytelling, and everyday life, I invite you to subscribe. It’s completely free, and it simply delivers the article to your inbox each week.

If you’re curious, sign up now and start with tomorrow’s post.

Happy Birthday to The Murder Creek Mystery Show®!

It's hard to believe that seven years ago, we launched this show with just two performances a month and a lot of people telling me it would never work in Mobile, Alabama.

Well… the audience had other plans.

Before long, those two shows a month turned into three shows a week aboard the Perdido Queen Dinner Cruise, with guests stepping into the story, questioning suspects, and solving mysteries right alongside us.

What started as a risky idea has become one of the most unique experiences in our city. The fictional town of Murder Creek has even taken on a life of its own. Legacy characters, businesses, and other townsfolk all live in this world.

To everyone who has ever joined us as a deputy detective, suspect, or supporter — thank you for helping turn Murder Creek into a legend.

The mystery continues.

**Improv Lifehack**
If you don’t know what to say…
repeat the last 3 words.

Repeat the Last 3 Words
When a conversation gets tense, confusing, or awkward, try this simple improv trick!

Repeat the last 3 words the other person said.
Not in a mocking way.
Just with curiosity.

Example:
Person: “I’m just really overwhelmed at work right now.”

You: “Overwhelmed at work?”

Now something interesting happens.
People almost always expand on what they meant.
Suddenly the conversation gets clearer, deeper, and more human without you having to invent the perfect response.

Improvisers use this technique on stage to keep scenes moving.

It works just as well in:
• difficult conversations
• meetings
• networking
• talking with friends or family

You don’t need the perfect line.
Just show you’re listening.
