We have heard significant feedback on the proposed location of the future maintenance shop. Public service is our number one priority and we always seek to search the broader community. No work or even engineering had begun as this project was proposed for a future fiscal year.

A replacement maintenance shop is a project proposed in our current 10 year plan and is needed for greater work space, better access to utilities including internet for today's workplace needs, a better work environment and a safer building long term for our staff. The contoursRothwell ParkPark and availability of flat green space and utilities necessary for the next couple generations proves to be a challenge without disrupting existing amenities.

Changes in recent years reduces usage at the arena - including 1) the Fair Board choosing to relocate the annual Fair based on a generous offer from the raceway owners to create a larger community event and 2) the Fair Board's decision not to continue the rodeo due to financial feasibility despite the arenaRothwell ParkPark, staff time, and equipment being donatedMoberly Parks and Recreationtion for years in partnership in an effort to continue the rodeo as long as possible - led us to reconsider the long term use of this area.

However, the concern has been heard and we understand folks are passionate about Moberly Rodeo Arenarena, especially in light of the development of trails over the last decade. The nature trails of years ago were overgrown and over the last decade between staff and volunteers, we have established nature trails over 105 acres for a variety of users from equestrian users and hikers to mountain bikers and bird watchers. This has established a significant recreational area for these users including horse access to all of the nature trails except the South side of Water Works Lake.

While redevelopment of the arena is not in our current 10 year plan, we welcome discussion about what can be done in partnership and with outside dollars going forward. We look forward to continuing the conversation over the coming months.
