We are so grateful to have had a chance to hear (and record) some incredible stories from the wonderful Joe D Kingsley before you left us for that story slam in the sky. What a storytelling legend you were in life and on our stage! Joe, you truly knew the art of the story, there were audience laughs, cheers, tears, sometimes in rapid succession from your tales, and being a timekeeper during your tales was never easy--how could we ever imagine cutting off your flow just because of that pesky clock ticking? You shared about your loves, your work life, standing up for what mattered, dream jobs gone bad, and even youthful tales of adventures in gardening and brushes with the law. The twists and turns and big reveals always had us on the edge of our seats. And if there had been a best dressed category your bow ties and suspenders would have given you the win. Sometimes you got on the stage, sometimes we brought the mic to you, but always we were so glad the magic top hat sorted your name to the top so we got to hear your tales! Our team will be curating a few of our favorites from Joe, and we'll partner later this year with KZMU fm Moab Community Radio to air them. In the meantime, our hearts go out to all whose lives were touched by our King of the too-long-but-oh-so-great-story! Viva Joe Kingsley!

Thanks to everyone who came out last night to listen and share stories about Beginnings! And we began a new tradition ourselves, giving special priority to folks who are putting their name in the hat to tell a story for the first time on our stage at the Moab Arts - The MARC.

We had 11 storytellers, 9 of whom were new. That felt special.

Save the date for our next slam on June 16th, the theme is:

Your Voice, Your Vote: Stories of you sharing your opinion, flexing and leveraging your opinions and agency, casting ballots, voting with your feet, voting with your dollar, speaking out for what matters to you!

Have ideas for a theme? Message us! We’re crowd sourcing themes! Wanna emcee? Let us know! Feeling nervous about how to prepare to tell your story and need a bit of coaching or support? We’re here for it! See you in June and we love you!

**Save the Date for our last Story Slam of 2025.

Our Storied Self Theme this time:

"It was a dark and stormy night…”

It’s an opening line that is iconic, right? What happened to YOU on a dark and stormy night? Come put your name in the hat for a chance to tell a true, 5-7 minute personal story that transports us to another time and place, where weather and a lack of light were central to the scene. Whether that was good news, bad news, spooky, uplifting, all sorts of nocturnal tales are welcomed.

Gather 6:30, stories at 7pm at the MARC (Moab Arts - 111 E 100 N in downtown Moab)
