Palace City Jazz Festival

Palace City Jazz Festival The Palace City Jazz Festival is a non-competitive jazz festival centered around jazz education.

The Palace City Jazz Festival is run by the Mitchell High School Boosters group. This non-competitive festival is centered around the education of jazz. Each band receives 30 minutes on stage with 6 clinicians (1 woodwind specialist, 2 brass specialists, 3 rhythm specialists). Each band then gets 30 minutes off stage in a private one on one clinic with one of our clinicians. Our festival is usually held the second Tuesday of February (depending on calendar).

I'm thrilled to announce our 2026 Palace City Jazz Festival guest artists.

This year we're bringing in some remarkable musicians to work with our students. Jeff Rupert directs jazz studies at the University of Central Florida and has recorded with Maynard Ferguson, Mel Tormé, and Benny Carter. McClenty Hunter is a GRAMMY Award-winning drummer and Juilliard graduate who's played with Kenny Garrett and Christian McBride. Dante Luciani leads the graduate jazz program at Miami's Frost School of Music and played lead trombone with the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band.

Joining them are three musicians our students already know well: Jeremy Hegg on piano, Jim Speirs on trumpet, and Andrew Reinartz on bass.

February 9th in Mitchell. Clinics, workshops, and jam sessions — no trophies, no rankings, just students making music with people who do it at the highest level. The final concert is Tuesday at 7PM in the Performing Arts Center.

Monday, February 8th 2027 belongs to our middle school and emerging bands, and I'm glad to introduce the artists who'll be working with them.

Joel Shotwell on saxophone, Alex Massa on trumpet, Dan Heier on drums, Jeremy Hegg on piano, Ben Harder on trombone, and Rueben Rodriguez on bass. These are musicians our students see on stages around the region all year, and having them in the room for a full day of clinics and jam sessions is something special.

No trophies, no rankings. Just students playing with people who do this for a living.
