Yesterday was a big day for Missoula Youth Homes, with the ribbon-cutting at the new Birnbaum Youth Home and Shelter.

Radius was happy to help find the perfect local artists to express Youth Homes’ values through art.

Lillian Nelson did an amazing original mural of children jumping from the colors of a rainbow, down the central stairs. Elisha Harteis also contributed a ceramic installation, collaborating with Lilli’s rainbow piece. 🌈

Other living spaces now include a large Stella Nall mural in the recreation room; two Montana landscapes by Dale Livezey in the open dining area; and ledger works by Aspen Decker in the entrance and hallway.

We’re delighted that these kids in need will be living with art as they grow and heal.

✨ Artist Spotlight– Sean O'Connell

Sean believes in the beauty of handmade objects. To him, creating by hand is a deliberate attempt at slowing down, connecting to something deeper, and taking time to appreciate the unique beauty in natural materials.

He has participated in a variety of artist residencies, including at the Archie Bray in Helena, and is currently based out of North Carolina.

Artist Spotlight– Amy Brakeman Livezey ✨

Amy’s abstract realism expresses her love for the human form, portraiture, and rural life. She combines figures from historic photographs—women in particular—with contemporary expressionist fields of shape and color.

“The women are interesting because their lives seem to be more secret. I’m curious about their day-to-day lives and want to learn from them—and not strictly from a historical perspective. I care about the present and the future, and what we can learn from those who came before us.” – Amy

Artist Spotlight– Stephanie J. Frostad ✨

As a narrative painter, Stephanie's objective is to present the essential elements of a story: a character or two, a sense of place and time, a moment of connection, tension, or reflection. She seeks figures, symbols, and scenarios that are both personally compelling and socially relevant.

Stephanie has been self-employed as an artist since 1994, and also remains active as a teacher, mentor and speaker on art. Born and raised in Walla Walla, Washington, she now makes her home in Missoula.
