MEET THE COSTUME DESIGNER: Jordan Draper

Jordan Draper (Costume Designer) is the Assistant Professor of Costume Technology and the Costume Shop Manager at the University of Montana’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Draper designed costumes for Jabberdoggy and Monster + Farmer (M + F) with Montana Repertory Theatre. They have worked nationally as a costume maker with Paper Mill Playhouse, PCPA, Atlanta Opera, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and on numerous film productions as a member of IATSE, such as Pitch Perfect 3, and Dumplin’.

Announcing auditions for Montana Repertory Theatre’s production of The Christians, a full-length play by Lucas Hnath performing at churches across Missoula in November. The Rep invites local (Missoula area only) equity and non-union actors to audition, and welcomes actors of every race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, mental and physical ability, gender and its expressions, and sexual/affectional orientations. THE CHRISTIANS, SYNOPSIS

Pastor Paul delivers a sermon that shakes the foundation of his church, pitting neighbor against neighbor. As he tries to hold his congregation, his faith, and his marriage together, he discovers how insurmountable the divides between us can be. Performed in churches in and around Missoula, this immersive play asks what do you believe and why do you believe it? And what happens when those foundational beliefs are called into question?

MEET THE DIRECTOR: Chae Clearwood

Chae Clearwood returns to Montana Repertory Theatre as the director of the world premiere of HER-cules. Chae most recently served as co-director of last season’s educational tour of Jabberdoggy and music directed and performed in Bonnets, part of MRT’s First Reads Series.

Chae is currently in her final year of the MFA Directing program at the University of Montana’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. She looks forward to continuing to build a career in directing, teaching, and acting, with a deep belief in the power of collaboration, curiosity, and bold artistic leaps.

Chae is especially passionate about helping the next generation of theatre artists find their voices and empowering women to pursue their dreams and embrace leadership opportunities in the arts and beyond.

MEET THE PLAYWRIGHT: JM Christiansen

JM Christiansen is a director, playwright, and theatre scholar. He is the Instructor of Directing at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. JM received his MFA and PhD from the University of Montana. He has recently directed Kate Hamill’s Little Women and Jesus Christ Superstar at UNO, Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses for the University of Montana, and his own adaptation of Frankenstein for the Montana Repertory Theatre. JM is the host of No Script: A Theatre Podcast (noscriptpodcast.podbean.com). In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, camping, and adventuring with his beloved partner Brianne, their son Arthur, and their two dogs.

We are so excited for our 2026 Educational Outreach Tour – HER-cules, The Twelve Trials and the Story I Told, by recent University of Montana PhD recipient JM Christiansen! Directed by UM MFA Directing Candidate Chae Clearwood, and starring recent UM graduates Kairi Lising and Shadie Wallette, this story full of heart, swagger, and mythic spectacle premieres at the Zootown Arts Community Center (ZACC) on September 12 and 13, with matinees Saturday and Sunday, and an evening performance on Saturday.
