It takes a village...

Our journey to put build ice every season is a lot more than just turning on the refrigeration system. Its a journey of early mornings and late night. Of mistakes, frustrations, and aha moments. Its a journey that relies heavily on all of us coming together to build something that will spend the next 9 months creating memories.

From the first layer of water that gets laid down over bare concrete, to the final layer of ice dropped by the Zamboni, our staff, volunteers, and sponsors put in immense effort to welcome you back this season. Every paint stroke, every hour, and every contribution came together to get the ice in and bring your rink back to life. This year we were grateful to welcome members from to help put the finishing touches into the center ice logo.

This ice belongs to the whole community, and we can't wait to see you on it.

Doors open August 31st. We've missed you.

🏒 GLACIER HOCKEY LUNCH LEAGUE 🌭

Have a flexible daytime schedule? Want to blow off some steam during lunch time? Want to experience winter hockey while the sun is still out? This winter, we're l̵u̵n̵c̵h̵i̵n̵g̵ launching a new daytime hockey league for adults who would rather spend their lunch break on the ice.

📅 November 12, 2026 - January 14, 2027
⏰ Thursdays | 12–1 PM
🚫No games Nov 26, Dec 24, or Dec 31
📆 7 game season
🏒4 teams
💰 Players: $161 | Goalies: $120.75

Players of all skill levels are welcome! Teams will be drafted d by GIR staff using each player’s self-ranking to create balanced, games.
A current USA Hockey membership is required to register.

Most of the year, you’ll find these kids on the ice. This week, you’ll find them in the show ring! 🏒🐄🐖🐑

Each summer, we trade ice for sawdust when our indoor rink becomes the 4-H sale barn during the Western Montana Fair.

While it may look (and smell) a little different around here, hockey and 4-H share a common purpose—helping kids build skills, confidence, responsibility, and friendships that last beyond the rink or show ring.

We’re proud to see so many of our Missoula Youth Hockey players participating in Missoula County 4-H and showing their animals at the fair.

Apparently the officials make the transition pretty well too, as one of our referees traded his stripes for sheep. We assume arguing with the judge is still frowned upon... 😄

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who helped in the parking lot at this summer's KettleHouse Amphitheater concerts!

This activity raised $4,000 for our Missoula Youth Hockey Financial Aid Fund, which helps keep our hockey programs affordable and accessible for families.

If you didn't get a chance to volunteer, you can still support the fund by making an optional donation when you register for youth or adult hockey programs.

We'll now turn our focus back to ice as we get ready to open at the end of the month. Who else is ready for a nice, cool rink?

Have you ever been out on the ice and thought, "I wish there were some cows out here?"

Well, boy do we have some news for you!

The fairgrounds crew has officially started transforming our indoor rink for the 2026 Western Montana Fair. That means plenty of sawdust, a few... aromas, and the chance for tens of thousands of fairgoers to experience a side of Glacier Ice Rink they don't usually get to see.

If you're headed to the fair, be sure to wander through the rink (barn?) and stop by to say hi!
