Guys I have a vision that I want to gauge interest on and that I want to put out there because I'll need your help to make come to fruition.
What do you guys think about collaborating and having a 1day/night Montana Flow/ Movement Arts Festival in July?
Here is my idea...
1 Day/ Night is split up into 3 parts:
1.Flow/Aerial/Dance Workshops during the day
2.Free Flow/Flow Jam/ Play Time
3.Regala Fire Show at Night
-I'm thinking we could do it on a weekend in Missoula
--maybe informally at a park so we don't have to pay a venue (or if anyone had private land even better).
-All ages event where accompanied children are welcome.
-People who wanted to teach a workshop would submit their idea/ workshop description to the event's group page (we'll start a Montana wide flow page)
-Scheduled instructors would be selected based on group facebook poll votes of interest.
--That being said we'll have a renegade teaching space/time where anyone can teach anything (don't want to discourage teaching of any sort)
-Instructors would be volunteer based (unless we can find a way to pay them)
-We could ask local Montana djs to come play throughout the day (again volunteer based unless we can find a way to pay them)
-Prop vendors (or any sort of vendors really) could come sell their goods
-If we find someone awesome enough to offer their land we could make it a camp out/ sleep over with a cleanup party the next day?
~Financial aspects:~
-We could talk about charging a couple dollars a person to help pay organizers back for overhead and maybe even have enough to pay scheduled instructors and musicians (but then we actually need people to come)
-or-
We could raise funds collectively beforehand (fundly-esk websites where we all pitch in a couple bucks or we can find sponsors) to pay overhead/ instructors and musicians
--I think making the actual event free would maybe generate appeal to the general public and help boost interest from non spinners and help spread the movement.
Things we would need (that maybe people can donate their time to make or we have within the spinner community:
-Web/ City Flier (to be shared by everyone at yoga studios, farmers markets, schools, parties ect.)
-Sound System
-Maybe some Risers for a stage
- Generally Accessible Private Land? (So we don't need to worry about the logistics of having this in a park. I.E. Kiwanis, Greenough or Caras) annnd can have a low key sleepover bonfire party or something?
-Money for Fuel for the show
-Money for Flier printing costs
-Money to pitch land owners?
-and lastly... enough commitment and love from people in Missoula, Bozeman, Whitefish, Helena and the rest of Montana to make it worth everyone's time.
-(im sure im forgetting/ not thinking of some things so please help fill in)
Pretty much I'm imaging a fun day/night where we all get together as a greater Montana (or even greater) community to meet,play, share and learn, and make it so fun that people outside of our artist/spinner/dancer community want to join in, and this the movement grows.
I think with a little planning and collaboration we could do it very inexpensively and potentially start a greater movement in Montana for more organized flow events to come.
