Ok, so this is the way this whole Lampshade Brigade Playwriting Workshop/Play Submission for Winter Tour Thing is going to go:
Saturday night October 27th Those who are interested in a late night, free form, workshopy, collaborative playwriting experience are invited to the Pangea House (23 2nd Ave SE Minot, Beneath 2-D Ink.) There you will be provided with resources such as a word processor template if you need one, a few scholarly tomes to consult for sagely advice, more informal feedback and advice from other local playwrights, and scrap paper. We'll write all night if we need to in order to hopefully get at least a rough draft for everyone to keep working on. Please bring flash drives!
Then over the course of the next week the playwrights have the chance to clean up their scripts, chisel, add whatever they feel the scripts need. They will also have the opportunity to find a few actors for them to direct in a prepared stage reading (or find someone else to direct) which will be held on the night of Friday November 2nd. If one runs out of time to direct a cast in a prepared staged reading we will have seasoned actors on hand to provide a cold reading of the material.
The Public is invited attend and watch and they should know that the audience reaction to the scripts will help us in choosing which of the scripts to produce for out winter tour.
We are looking to choose 3 or 4 ten minute scripts from this process. They will be chosen based on technical feasibility, and of course the audience response.
Now all of you out-of-towners we want you also to be able to join in the fun. So for anyone who for any reason cannot attend the workshop night on the 27th can still submit a play by letting Chris Stroschein or Jake Flaten know by Midnight on Oct. 31 (Halloween) that you have a script ready. Again if you are unable to direct/prepare a staged reading you could work with a local director who could prepare a reading or it can be subject to the cold reading treatment.
Then afterward we'd like to compile all of the plays that were written and submitted as part of this process into one zine that we can all have a copy of.
Thank you all for your consideration. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please email us at:
