Thunderbird Choirs

This past week 67 of our LUHS band and choir students made their way to New York City for a 7 day trip!

Students experienced:
-Two broadway shows
-Walked Central Park, Times Square, and 5th Avenue
-Went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art
-Toured the USS Intrepid
-Visited the 9/11 memorial
-Toured the Radio City Music Hall
-Visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
-Attended workshops with current people involved with the Broadway production of Wicked!

Students received many compliments from our tour guides, coach drivers, and service workers for our students’ attitude, kindness, and responsibility shown on this trip! What a great compliment to receive!

This once in a lifetime experience was also supported by our amazing parent/staff chaperones who helped make this trip possible for our students!

This Friday and Saturday 3 of our students (Miranda Schneider, Kady Lohoff, and Jadyn Wentland) participated in the annual WCDA All State Treble Choir hosted in Eau Claire under the direction of Dr. Garrett!

Students are nominated in the fall to participate in this event in January and spent two days together to prepare 5 songs ranging from 2-5 parts!

Viviana Stiegler (GNC Honors Choir)

Paul Conde (GNC Honors Choir)

Kenyon Carpenter (Dorian Vocal Festival)

Jadyn Wentland (Dorian Vocal Festival)

WSMA State Honors Treble Choir is an auditioned ensemble containing 150 girls in the state narrowed down from a pool of over 1000 auditions. They have a summer camp (Eau Claire) spent learning the music and in October (Madison) meet again for their concert! This is a HUGE accomplishment for any singer!

GNC Honors Choir is comprised of singers from our conference! Each school sends up to 8 students to represent them and they spend the day making music and we’re conducted by Dr. Matheus Cruz of UWSP this year in Mosinee!

Dorian Vocal Festival is the largest honors choir in the United States boasting over 900 singers from 200 schools in the Midwest. This event is hosted by Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and is a two day event spent learning the music, having lessons with vocal staff at the college, and having a once in a lifetime experience of a room truly filled to the brim with sound!

All of these experiences help our students grow as musicians and meet other singers in the state and out of state! The experiences they have at these events and the skills they bring back are irreplaceable!

Congratulations to our very own Miranda Schneider for being awarded the Exemplary Performance award for her Soprano solo “Du Bist Die Rue” at State Solo and Ensemble!

Adjudicators nominate the most exceptional performances at each of the festival campuses and at the end of the day they may select up to two award recipients from the nominated events at their festival sight! In addition to this, Miranda received a perfect score. What a great accomplishment!
