Having a live painter on stage during our stories and songs has been one of our favorite parts of Mixtape. You can see art mix with storytelling mixed with vibrant live music and the effect is…well, you have to come see for yourself!

Meet Chris Gorecki - the man with the brushes!

“I can never remember a time not being an artist. I have always been looking to learn new and innovative ways to create and collaborate. I love big bold textures. So when I left college, it seemed fitting to experiment in the world of decretive painting and murals. Over the years I have found my way back to my roots and been creating on canvas once again. I am always looking finding new and exciting ways to share my passion, being inspired by theater, musicians, dance or any type of artistic expression. I love working hand in hand with them to create a unified vision across all artistic mediums. moving to the future. I am invested in bring that collaborative model to the community.”

Come see this guy do his thing! May 15-17 at the : doors open at 6, show starts at 7. Hope to see you there!

Hey fam!

It’s been a little while…we miss ya! We sent this update out in our newsletter but wanted to give it here too!

We are back with our ongoing storytelling/live music series, Mixtape. This round the theme is Adrift - true tales of times when one is lost in the proverbial sauce. We have an incredible line up that includes five fabulous storytellers, our house band, Pity Party, and our favorite painter who will be slinging his paint live onstage, Chris Gorecki. Details can be found at waywardtheatre.org.

Other updates include family raising, new babies, toddlers, teens, puppies, campus tours and small businesses. So it has been busy over here! BUT if you are missing Wayward shows, know that we are too. If you are hoping for some Wayward Theatre experiences in the future, I can tell you that we just had a site visit for a brand new site last week and we are very excited…more on that soon!

We have missed our home away from home at the MN Historic Society but we have been told there is a hold on outside programming due to staffing and budget. We are confident that as soon as they open those opportunities back up, our partnership will resume. In the meantime, know that we are visiting new sites and Sarah has been hard at work fleshing out the beginnings of a brand new play/experience/adventure.

Hope to see you at the next Mixtape and stay tuned here for next updates!

big love,

Sarah, Mike and Tim

Another day, another storyteller announcement!

Kris Johnson is a special educator, who has worked with unique populations of amazing students since 1998.

Kris is a father of three, a grandfather of one, and a husband of 25 years.

He graduated from Hopkins High School (1992), then pursued both his undergraduate work (Speech Communications - 1996) and graduate work (Special Education - Emotional Behavior Disorders 2007, Autism 2011) from Mankato State University.

Kris is currently enjoying his 20th year as a licensed special educator in Intermediate District 287, a district serving students with a variety of unique needs and challenges who receive special education services through a federal setting IV school where students range in age from 14 - 22 years.

Kris is privileged to run what is called a Makerspace at his school. A class where students get to explore their own creativity, problem solving, tool use, material repurposing, and where they build confidence as they learn new skills and advocate for their own individual needs.

Kris believes that it is his duty, and his blessing, and his joy to love others, and he does this as frequently and overtly as possible.

I am loving this line up! Join us May 15th, 16th and 17th for true tales, live music and out in house artist slinging paint for each show!
