From BABOWORKS Theatre Company:
We will be casting “Leaving St. Paul.” An original play inspired by the lives of a St. Paul, MN Caucasian family forced from their home during the 1960’s for opposing practices of racial segregation in neighborhoods of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Arnold (lead) – (40) Caucasian. A self-made man, brilliant, creative and kind, military veteran and community leader.
Ivah (lead) – (Late 30’s) Caucasian. Arnold’s wife. Strong-willed, progressive, socially active.
Howard – (Early 40’s) Caucasian. Local independent businessman, practical and realistic.
Georgia – (Late 30’s) Caucasian. Tough, level-headed, commanding physical presence.
Frank – (Early 40’s) Caucasian. Arnold’s business colleague, distinct and decisive personality, sees all things in terms of black and white.
Virginia – (Early 40’s) Caucasian. Frank’s wife. Hard-nosed conservative, influential member of the community.
Leon – (Early 40’s) African American. Former United States military pilot, honest family man.
Jose Vega – (Early 40’s) Mexican American. Works for Union Stockyards Company, devote family man.
Luisa Vega – (Late 30’s) Mexican American. Jose’s wife. Traditional stay at home family oriented woman.
Martin Luther King Jr. – (early 30’s) A young MLK, before becoming a public figure.
