A warm thank you to The Acreage at Osceola for hosting our first ever, 2-Day Writers Retreat for the Native Authors Program cohort members.

The authors were invited to stay at the facility to explore their creativity, finish writing projects and explore the stunning grounds to get inspired. We are honored to host guest speakers Diane Wilson, Heid E. Erdrich, and Nicholas Surfista DeShaw who led the group through workshops, writing exercises and tips on expanding their practice.

Thank you to everyone who came out for our recent "Sakowin Synergy" events: the mixed media workshop and artist talk. Much gratitude for Ray Janis, Sheldon Starr, and Jim Yellowhawk Art , who were able to share space with us, present their knowledge, and meet the community.

Mixed Media Art Workshop
Join us for a hands-on art workshop with the artists of Sakowin Synergy! Participants will create unique mixed media art boxes using a variety of materials, textures, colors, and lights. This collaborative workshop is an opportunity to experiment, explore your creativity, and build something truly one of a kind.

Ray Janis, Sheldon Starr, and Jim Yellow Hawk will facilitate the workshop, guiding participants through the creative process while encouraging experimentation and individual expression. Wednesday, August 26th, 6-8pm at All My Relations Gallery.

On Thursday, August 27th, join the artists for an engaging arts discussion that delves into the creative process behind Sakowin Synergy. In an intimate chat, we’ll explore their artistic styles, techniques, and the journey that has shaped their practice. Discover how these artists blend contemporary digital design techniques with traditional motifs, create a collaborative energy that defines the exhibit and how cultural identity is the connective thread that binds together their shared perspective.

We are incredibly grateful to April Ogimaakwe Stone and the Avon Hills Folk School for hosting last week’s Black Ash weaving community workshops at our gallery. The renowned Black Ash weaver instructed the class on the traditional Anishinaabe art of Black Ash basketry and weaving, and attendees left with a beautiful piece of their own to take home.

Join renowned Black Ash weaver April Ogimaakwe Stone for a hands-on introduction to the traditional Anishinaabe art of Black Ash basketry and weaving. Participants will explore traditional weaving techniques, learn about Black Ash and other natural materials, and create a piece of their own to take home.

Watch April Ogimaakwe Stone demonstrate the traditional art of Black Ash basketry and weaving. Stop by to learn about this art form, ask questions, and see the weaving process up close.

The Black Ash Weaving Workshops are FULL. Folks are still invited to come to the free demonstration on Thursday.

These workshops are provided in partnership with the Avon Hills Folk School Avon Hills Folk School and made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

"Sakowin Synergy," the upcoming exhibit at All My Relations Arts, has been recently featured in the news! Wopila/ Thank you Mpls.St.Paul Magazine and MPR News , for helping uplift our upcoming exhibition curated by artist Ray “Rock Boy” Janis.

Sakowin Synergy, a mixed-media exhibition of contemporary art inspired by Indigenous traditions and culture as well as video games, hip-hop, and pop culture, opens on July 9.

“It's an honor that they want to collaborate with me,” Janis says. “I'd never thought I would own a piece by any of them, because their pieces are worth a lot, but to actually work with them is like another level.”
