The Bethlehem Music Series presented the acclaimed ensemble Cantus to a capacity crowd.

We were treated to a musical journey beginning with the beloved "America the Beautiful" and closing with Stephen Paulus' famous and endearing "The Road Home".

The major portion of the concert was devoted to exploring what it means to celebrate a national identity encompassing cultures from around the world, honoring that diversity with captivating music by composers carrying their own immigrant stories.

Cantus is an ensemble that is not only one of the finest vocal ensembles in the world, but its storytelling is relevant to our times.

On February 15, the Bethlehem Music Series audience savored an elegant musical feast, witnessing the remarkable talents of the Mirandola Ensemble as if literally present in the floating city of Venice, Italy.

Here are some photos from their rehearsal at Bethlehem!

Enveloped by sounds from Frescobaldi, Monteverdi, Gabrieli, Merulo, we were swept away with the elegance, sophistication, and purity of the Renaissance era. The menu was extremely varied with different combinations of instruments -- violin, viola da gamba, sackbut (early trombone), portative organs, and many configurations of voices. Mirandola produced a superb tonal quality that was authentic, clean, compelling, and translucent. Sounding like one voice, they still filled the packed space to the brim, while filling our own musical cups. We were indeed honored and privileged to experience early music at its finest!
