Potekglass is a kiln formed glass design shop. Owned by Malcom Potek and Kara van Wyk, Potekglass works on commissions for public and private spaces, as well as creating gallery work of their own. Malcom teaches glass classes at their home studio and throughout the US. They sell glass items such as beads, lighting fixtures and tiles. Customization is available upon request.

🐚🛠️ REPAIR OF THE WEEK 🛠️🐚

This extremely unique artisan-made shell lamp came to us with broken glass and lead-line in need of repair.

Fortunately, the shells themselves were in excellent condition. After our glass restoration team worked their magic, this stunning piece was brought back to near-perfect condition. Seeing it illuminated is truly remarkable. The light filtering through the natural patterns of the shells creates such a mesmerizing and beautiful effect.

Projects like this are always rewarding, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to help bring such a special piece back to life.

We are thrilled to announce that Potekglass in conjunction with the Stained Glass Association of America (SGAA) will be hosting Indre Mccraw for a 3 day intensive on the Fundamentals of Traditional Glass Painting and Silver Stain.

Spend three hands-on days exploring the foundations of traditional glass painting and silver stain with Indre McCraw, master glass painter at Judson Studios. This workshop at Potekglass is a wonderful opportunity to build core skills, guided every step of the way by a seasoned professional.

And there’s more! Kick off the weekend on Friday, September 4, with a special technical presentation by Indre McCraw herself, followed by a networking opportunity.

Registration opens late-June 2026. Mark your calendars and watch for the announcement! Space is limited to just 12 students.

🛠️ Project of the Week 🛠️

This newly completed Victorian-style stained glass window was created for a client building a new home in St. Paul. Measuring 21.75” x 21.75”, the piece features a geometric floral design inspired by late 19th-century decorative windows, with layered symmetry and rich color creating a distinctly historic character.

One of the most interesting parts of this project was the context it was designed for. Although the home itself is new construction, the client has thoughtfully incorporated built-in architectural details and traditional materials throughout the design in order to create the feeling of an older historic residence. The stained glass window became part of that larger vision as an architectural feature intended to give the home a greater sense of warmth and craftsmanship. The finished window will be installed as an interior feature between the mud-room and stairwell, where it will catch and filter light between spaces throughout the day.

Magnet making fun!!

For Art-A-Whirl this past weekend our shop hosted a drop-in fused glass magnet workshop. We had 500+ people through the shop over the course of the weekend of which over 100 made one of these lovely small fused glass pieces. The magnets are now firing and will be ready for pickup as early as Saturday!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our workshop and enjoyed a the fun-filled weekend of Art-A-Whirl!

Flux Arts Building is saddling up with our compatriots over at Recovery Bike Shop this Saturday to bring you an experience like none other at this year’s Art-a-Whirl®. Need a bike? Start at Recovery Bike Shop and grab one from their lending library! Need a costume? Come to The Flux and get suited up!

Then at 8:14pm, we will ride off into the sunset where surprise destinations await! We will explore the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District at night. There will be a stop at Bleeding Hearts Studio and other surprises along the way. Eventually we will arrive at the Flux Arts Building for the ultimate Disco Cowboy party!

Flap Jacks! Hobby Horses Rodeo?!

The final destination is back to Recovery Bike Shop for music and entertainment including artistic whipping! You. Will. Not. Be. Disappointed!
