Tonight 6–7pm at Walker Art Center's Cargill Lounge: a Smoke Dance performance led by Sherri Waterman-Hopper (Onondaga Nation, Beaver Clan). Smoke Dance is a Haudenosaunee social dance that involves storytelling, quick footwork, and spins. Originally a war dance practiced by men, a graceful women’s dance style has since evolved.

ASL interpretation will be offered.

This program is presented in partnership with the exhibition, performance, and community engagement project, "A:gajë:gwah dësa'nigöëwë:nye:' (i hope it will stir your mind)," by Rosy Simas (Seneca Nation, Heron Clan) at the Walker.

Come see the exhibition before it closes on July 5—galleries are free Thursdays 5–9pm!

Smoke Dance is a Haudenosaunee social dance that involves storytelling, quick footwork, and spins. Originally a war dance practiced by men to demonstrate their agility, stamina, and strength, in the last 70 years a graceful women’s dance style has since evolved.

⭐️ Thursday, July 2, 6–7pm, Walker Art Center's Cargill Lounge, 725 Vineland Pl

Both performances will feature Sherri as the MC, singer Travis "Huggy" John, and dancers Monique Powless, Lumhe "Micco" Sampson, Kenlyn Skye, and Mae Redeye. The 7/2 date will include ASL interpretation.

This program is presented in partnership with the exhibition, performance, and community engagement project, "A:gajë:gwah dësa'nigöëwë:nye:' (i hope it will stir your mind)," by Rosy Simas (Seneca Nation, Heron Clan) at the Walker Art Center.
