Your Halloween prints might be hiding in your kitchen… 💀

For this blog project, was inspired by one of Gelli Arts®’ “oldie-but-goodie” videos and decided to experiment with plastic and paper plates.

The result? A collection of unique prints that she turned into a Halloween-inspired booklet with a flexible, no-sew hinged accordion binding!👏🏼🐈‍⬛

Sometimes a print doesn’t turn out the way you imagined... and that’s exactly when the magic happens. ✨🍂🍹

In this video, shows how an unexpected result can lead to something even better. Her original idea was a colorful cocktail image transfer, but the first transfer didn’t work out as planned. Her next print was successful, but the image felt too crisp and heavily outlined for the look she wanted.

Instead of starting over, Julia kept experimenting. By layering tissue paper over the print, she softened the bold outlines, added beautiful texture, and completely changed the feel of the piece.

The final oversized print is filled with rich, warm colors and layers that feel PERFECT for this time of year!

Julia worked on the 18” × 24” Gelli Arts® Poster Size Plate with ARA Artist Acrylics, using one of her own photographs along with imagery from a Gelli Arts® Image Transfer Pack.

Sometimes the best prints aren’t the ones you planned.. they’re the ones you discover along the way. Keep experimenting, trust the process, and most of all... have fun printing!

💎 Trash or Treasure? Worn-Out Jeans! 👖🗑

As a printmaker, you should have a good look at every piece of trash you are about to throw away. It might just be a gel printing treasure worth holding on to!

Let’s be clear: whenever I have clothes that I don’t wear anymore and they are still in good condition, I donate them. I will never cut up a good pair of jeans. But sometimes you have a piece that is worn to the thread, full of holes and paint stains—like those favorite studio pants you kept wearing until they simply gave out. Nothing left to donate.

In that case, cut off the pockets and the zipper part and—voilà—you have a new gel printing tool!

Oh, and you can of course use the fabric from the jeans legs to print on, then incorporate it into sewing or mixed-media projects. ☺️
