🚨2 events coming up for you and yours🚨

Join Karly Gesine Bergmann for DIY Halloween Costume - Make your Halloween costume dreams come true! Bring your ideas and we can help with basic costume construction at this special Halloween open house. We will have a selection of garments and textile scraps available from our Trash School waste stream. Using your creative superpowers, transform these items and give them another life! Papier-mâché supplies and support are available for those looking to build pieces that can be later painted at home. Come and go as you please 10am-1pm October 24th.

Let’s make this Halloween cubist! Join Sara Kahn for a delightful morning of pumpkin decorating- Picasso style. Come make your own creation during this family friendly drop in. Or invite some chance into the mix and roll a dice to select your shapes and see how silly it can get. Costumes welcome! Come and go as you please, October 31st 9am-12pm.

This Friday (10.9) we are excited to host the Laundry Library! 🧺

So far, our textile waste stream reveals one major culprit: laundry. From small spills to sweat stains, a lot of the garments we’ve ended up with are in otherwise great condition. When we consider the skills required to keep “waste” local and even recycling options down the line, laundry is a big part of the equation.

Which is why we are thrilled to be collaborating with India Johnson ! India’s expertise spans oh so many areas (we will talk about them all in due time). The Laundry Library is a collection of zines and literature that give you practical advice about laundry routines and products. She has a laundry guide for grungy bike folks and incurable DIYers. She considers apartment dwellers and chemistry. She has answers to questions you haven’t thought about yet.

Office hours are from 10am-1pm. We offer on the spot mending, laundry advice and take your textile waste questions. Thanks to Longfellow Community Council supporting this program!

WELCOME TO TRASH SCHOOL.

At the beginning of 2026, we gathered some friends to examine this question: what if we had a community-scale solution for discarded and unwanted textile waste?  We began enacting this system, collecting data and meeting cool people. Through conversations with partners, we learned where potential collaboration is needed for gaps in current donation practices and how we can address them on a hyper local level.  As our research went on, it remains clear that this is a complicated issue. Can solutions promote degrowth? Is transparency possible? What is the definition of waste anyways? Is there a way for this to be…fun? (Spoiler, it’s fun).   So Trash School was born from the desire to invite you into an initiative for learning about what we discard, celebrating its value and developing practices to keep it local. Our hope is that by better understanding textile waste, we can better explore the role we play in reducing it. We’re excited to share what we’ve been learning and unlearning!

🚨Proposals for drop in programming at Curiosity Studio are due September 27th at 11:59 pm!🚨

Artists can propose one of two styles:
Open Studio- Invite others into the creative process through a concept or idea. Create the container for folks to play without the expectation of an outcome.
Skill Share- Invite participants to learn a creative skill outside of a traditional class format. Teach a creative skill that benefits from ample time for practice but requires short instruction.

Selected programming must be completed between October 12th 2026 - April 15th, 2027. All programs will be free to participants. Facilitating artists will receive a stipend of $300 for their program with materials provided. Swing by the studio tonight (9.22) from 5-8 pm to see an example of a drop in program in action.

MAKE TIME TO PLAY.

Opening the studio Tuesday (9.22) from 5-8 pm for Open Play. Drop in any old time. Ample materials and permission provided. We’ve got some ideas or you can follow your own whims. There will probably be a bag of potatoes.

This drop in is held at no cost thanks to Metro Regional Arts Council. 18+. First come, first serve. No registration required, but we can send you a reminder if you sign up above. 💫

Mending Happy Hour returns this Friday (9.18) from 5-8pm!

Come hang out and catch up on your mending. Maybe you have a project you want help on or a skill to share. Maybe you have a very good story to share. Whatever your reason, we look forward to seeing you. Come and go as you please. BYOB + BYOP(roject).

It’s the greatest day of the year 🦋Monach Festival! 🦋

Come and make alebrijes with us! Originating from Mexico City in the 30’s, alebrijes are brightly colored sculptures of fantastical creatures and animals. Traditionally made from papier mache or wood. Today, you can join us to sculpt your own alebrije using tape and tin foil like these incredible ones by Gabi!

Find us from 10am-4pm next to the Lake Nokomis Community Center. We love to celebrate monarchs with you!

We have MEA plans for you!📣

it is with GREAT pleasure that we welcome internationally-recognized puppeteer Karly Gesine Bergmann to leads participants through the process of building their first hand puppet!

Over the course of this class we will create a puppet head using papier-mache. Then, a costume is created and a brief presentation of the character is devised and rehearsed. The class culminates in a celebratory showing of our work for family and friends.

You’re invited to… TRASH COURSE.

Consider this a crash course on textile waste discourse!💥

What if we had a community-scale solution for recycling discarded and unwanted textile waste? We’ve spent the year exploring this idea on a hyperlocal level. Like you, we feel frustrated by limited options for our discarded and unwanted material. In this series of workshops we will invite you into what we have learned so far. Thinking through the problem together, we will identify the skills and knowledge we have and need.

Our first group is September 28th! There is no cost to participate. Registration and full details linked above.
