OpenMicMpls FAQ

Q) When is signup?
A) SUNDAY at noon.

Q) How long until the list is maxed out?
A) 30-40 mins, usually

Q) What if I try to signup on Sat?
A) I will remind you that signup starts Sun at noon.

Q) What if I signup Sun at 11am?
A) Same as above unless you give a great reason (e.g. I’ll be in a submarine at noon). I know this is annoyingly strict but there has to be a line somewhere.

Q) Can I signup via IG message?
A) If you want me to see it 17 days later, sure

Q) Why not just have an automated, online signup?
A) It might make my life easier, but not yours. You’d be competing with the same 60 signups AND robots. Plus I don’t know how.

Q) What can I do to help OpenMic remain inclusive & sustainable?
A) -Attend as a spectator occasionally
-Spend $ at Sociable or Smashed Pattys, or tip JT directly (cash or Venmo )
-Respect the time limits (Two songs: 8 mins | One song: 5 mins)

If you’ve attended OpenMic you may have had the thought: “Man, people seem to thank JT a lot. I wonder if that goes to his ego?”

Oh you bet it does. By the time Monday is over I sashay around like I own this town. I park my car across 3 handicap spots. I crop everyone else out of family photos.

I specifically wait for the sign to say “don’t walk” to begin my leisurely stroll through a busy intersection. I make phone calls on speakerphone in grocery stores.

I pull over to give homeless people flyers for my shows. I stiff Lyft drivers for arriving too soon. I fart into jars & sell them on Craigslist.

I talk often of how heavy my phone has become due to all the big-cheese contacts I’ve accumulated. I leave 1-star reviews of kids’ dance recitals.

OpenMic tonight (Mon 5/18) at : 6pm-1030. Incredible lineup 52 deep plus 11 on the waitlist. Come knock me down a peg.

As of this writing, the forecast for tonight is 67° with a zero% chance of rain.

If that holds, OpenMic will be OUTDOORS tonight (Mon 5/11) at . 6pm-1030.

**At 950pm there will be a 3 minute intermission to wheel the stage inside (for legal reasons) and OpenMic will continue indoors for another 45mins. If you’ve never seen this NASCAR-Pit-Crew spectacle, it’s worth sticking around to witness even for non-fans of music/cider.

Equally exciting is tonight’s lineup, 53 deep including 6 first timers.
