15 Day Countdown. Day #15. The Main Event!

No matter how beautiful the building is, how talented our staff is, or how unforgettable our events have been... none of it would exist without our entertainers. What was built at DTC didn't happen overnight.

For the past 15 years, hundreds of women have walked through these doors. Some stayed for a season, others for years. Some found lifelong friendships, some found confidence, some simply found a way to make ends meet. Every single one of them became part of the story of Downtown Cabaret.

Through the laughs, the late nights, the crazy stories, the little bits of drama, the unforgettable moments, and the friendships that were built, you've each left your mark on this place.

To the entertainers who have been with us for years, thank you for your loyalty, for growing with us, and for helping shape the culture that makes DTC what it is today.

To those who chose DTC for only a chapter of your life, thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey. Whether you were here for a few weeks, or a few months, you'll always be a part of our history.

And to the incredible women who continue to choose Downtown Cabaret today... thank you for bringing your personalities, your talents, your individuality, and your energy to work every single night. You are the reason guests return, memories continue to be made, and this building comes alive.

Over the past 15 years, Downtown Cabaret has hosted countless events, celebrations, competitions, and unforgettable nights.

15 Day Countdown. Day #13. The real "A" Team

Meet our Management Team. Some of the first faces you'll see when you walk through our doors. They're more than just managers, they're hosts, problem solvers, leaders, mentors, mediators, and sometimes even counselors. From welcoming guests and supporting our staff to resolving issues behind the scenes, they're here to make sure every visit to Downtown Cabaret is the best it can be for all of our guests, staff and entertainers.

15 Day Countdown. Day #12. The secret beneath 4th Street.

For our history lovers and urban explorers at heart, 75-80 feet beneath Downtown Cabaret lies one of Minneapolis' best kept secrets.
It's Schiek's Cave.

The cave gets its name from Schiek's Café, the legendary Minneapolis restaurant founded in 1887. When the restaurant moved into this historic building in 1971, the cave beneath it eventually became known as Schiek's Cave because of the 6 sided man hole access right out front as shown in the photo.

Discovered during sewer construction in 1904, the cave's existence was quietly kept from the public because city officials feared people would worry that downtown Minneapolis had been built over hollow sandstone caverns.
This was or still is directly accessible from the Mississippi River with two entrances as shown in one of these photos. The left side led to the former Minneapolis Metrodome at the time and the right leads to our very own cave on 4th street. Urban explorers have mentioned other access points but multiple people have stated it is not easy and a "pain in the ass"

By 2008, all known entrances had been sealed due to safety concerns, but not before urban explorer and hydrogeologist Greg Brick found his way inside. His 1 hour long video can be viewed on YouTube from year 2000 of one of his expeditions, titled "Schiek's Cave Exploration".

What he discovered was natural sandstone passages, underground springs, massive support columns installed in the 1920s, swarms of insects, an underground waterfall nicknamed "Little Minnehaha Falls," and groundwater nearly 20°F warmer than expected, helping scientists discover that the heat from buildings and pavement warms the ground beneath the city.

So how did the cave form? No one knows for certain. One theory suggests it's nearly 10,000 years old, carved naturally when then the Minnehaha waters retreated back towards the Mississippi River and created these caverns and crevases. Another suggests it was enlarged around 1900 by water escaping from an improperly installed artesian well that bubbled through and eventually drained into the Mississippi River.

Like many hidden places, Schiek's Cave has its share of urban theories. Some believe the tunnels were used during prohibition to move alcohol throughout the city, while others have speculated they may have been connected to routes used by freedom seekers along the Mississippi River. While these stories remain unconfirmed, they've become part of the cave's mystery.

Today, the streets above are heavily engineered, making downtown perfectly safe despite the hollow sandstone below.

For the first time, we'll also be sharing some photos from our own basement whose tunnels have also been bricked off and a door that always seems to stay locked. This is just a small glimpse into the hidden spaces beneath one of Minneapolis most historic buildings.

Every night has a soundtrack, and these are the people behind it. From the music to the lights, they're the ones helping create the vibe that makes every visit to DTC unique.

DJ CHARLEY
Years at DTC: 14 years
Years of Experience: 25+ years

A true DTC staple, Charley has over 25 years in the industry but has spent 14 Years of that at DTC, known for his signature phrase: "Smokin' Hot!" While his new home is in Denver Colorado at Scarlett's Cabaret, this post wouldn't be complete without him.

What kept you coming back?
"The DJ crew, really. 🥹"

Fondest memory?
"My fondest memories at DTC were with the DJ crew. Sasha, Rappy & Owen. All the events we threw together and all the New Year's Eve parties we spent together. They were my motivation to come in every week and give it my all."

What makes DTC unique?
"I was proud to work in such a historic and iconic building. Out of all the clubs I've ever worked at, DTC was definitely the most unique venue. You just can't replicate what's in that building... the marble walls, that chandelier, the library."

DJ OWEN
Years at DTC: A little over 12 years
Years of Experience: Over 16 years

How did you get started?
"I got this job through a friend who worked day shift, DJ Glaze Doll. I was in college at the time and she was looking for someone to take over her shift."

What keeps you coming back?
"Consistency. As a DJ you're constantly chasing gigs, but here you have a home.

What have you seen change the most?
"The music scene. I still try to be as diverse as possible, but that's probably the biggest change."

Fondest memory?
I remember reading a five-star review that was left on one of my nights. It simply said, 'It was different, but it was lit.' That's all I strive for. You're going to hear all kinds of music because of our diverse clientele and entertainers, but ultimately it's my job to make it LIT every time.
Me and Sasha also like to give our entertainers Christmas gifts every year. It's never about the gift itself, it's about letting them know they're appreciated. It always surprises me how often it ends up being something they genuinely needed. Without these girls, none of us would be here, and it's simply my way of saying thank you, with no expectations in return.

Something people don't realize happens behind the scenes?
"Equipment failure is a real thing. Sometimes hard drives malfunction, computers randomly update, and next thing you know you're panicking to make sure the show goes on without anyone noticing."

What can guests expect from you?
"I'll always be sober and always thinking about how I can make your night better. If I see you in the club, eventually I'll play something you like."

LIGHT TECH SASHA
Years at DTC: 12 years
Years of Experience: 14 years

How did you get started?
"I came here with my husband during a day shift while he was DJing... and I never left."

What keeps you coming back?
"The schedule and flexibility. Being here has provided us with a lot of life opportunities."

What have you seen change the most?
" I dont know about anyone else, but it feels much faster paced now. The city has changed, technology has changed, and even the way we build relationships has changed. DTC has adapted to whatever each generation brings.

Fondest memory?
"The earlier years when I was building relationships with people who are no longer at the club. Shout out to Jim M. our former daytime doorman, Larry V. from New Orleans, our former cook, and especially all the entertainers I've met over the years. I have so many little relationships and memories that will be special to me for a lifetime."

Something you want guests to know?
"What you get here, you won't get at other clubs. We're original, and we always have been and always will be. As soon as you walk through those doors, someone is going to make sure you have a good time."

DJ RAPPY
Years at DTC: 12 years
Years of Experience: 16 years

Biggest challenge DJing at DTC?
"The mix. Our club attracts a diverse group of customers, from young to old, and it's always a challenge when you're playing multiple genres."

Something people don't realize happens behind the DJ booth?
"Once in a while we have to go to the bathroom during our 8-hour shift too... and it has to be quick. Like 3-minutes quick!"

Favorite memory?
"The DJs here have a tradition during every Vikings vs. Packers home game. We all DJ that night together. It's fun hearing each other mix, hanging out, and getting a little break in between because those games are usually packed."

Something you want guests to know?
"If you haven't tried a certain time of day, experience everything we have to offer. Try a day shift. Try a night shift. We have different vibes throughout the week."

DJ DANNY
Years at DTC: 9 years
Years of Experience: 34 years

How did you get started?
"Sasha reached out to me because they needed a DJ on day shift."

What keeps you coming back?
"The staff is like a family. It really is."

Fondest memory?
"During one of my shifts I had a couple entertainers in the booth pretending we were doing a radio interview about a strip club. I just remember laughing so hard. It's moments like those. You don't realize how close you become with your coworkers. The friendships and those moments you really make."

Something you want guests to know?
"Guests come in looking for a good time to get away from their own lives for a bit. We strive for customer satisfaction and a good variety of music. They'll have that experience as soon as they come through those doors."

DJ LEE
Time at DTC: Started in 2026
Years of Experience: 34 years

Lee has spent 34 years in the entertainment industry. While he's always been a DJ, he also spent the last 14 years as an entertainment manager at multiple venues around MN and the states. He's happy to be apart of our team and says "I plan on sticking around for a long time"

Special shout out to DJ Steven Jay who was with us during the mid 2000's A longtime friend of DJ Charley, Steven was a phenomenal DJ with decades of experience. His quick witted energy on the microphone was unmatched. Many of you may also remember him as the former DJ of The Seville in his former years.

To every DJ who has called DTC home, even if only for a short time, thank you. Every set, every shift, and every song helped with the memories made at DTC.

15 Day Countdown. Day #10 Sweet, Sassy & Serving!

Whether they've been here for 2 months or 15 years, one thing every server agreed on was this:
What keeps us coming back to work is that,
"We're 100% a family."

The friendships don't end when the shift does. They spend time together outside of work, support one another, and have built a team where everyone feels comfortable being themselves without fear of judgment.

The flexibility and the income are a plus but what also keeps them here are the patrons. The servers meet guests from all walks of life, creating connections you can truly only find at Downtown Cabaret.

"We do more than just serve drinks and food. Emotional labor and maintaining social relationships is part of our job too."
Every night, they juggle multitasking, problem-solving, and building genuine connections with guests to make sure everyone has a memorable experience. It all comes with the job while maintaining that good customer experience that's expected when guests walk through these door.

Each one of these girls has an individual story. They're smart, funny, sassy, definitely goofy, kind and so much more. Next time you stop in, show your servers some love!

While a few members of our server team preferred to sit this one out, we couldn't end this post without recognizing them as well. You all play an important role EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. 15 Day Countdown. Day #9 "A Royal Legacy"

After Schiek's Café closed for good in 1989, the building transitioned from an upscale restaurant into a gentleman's club called Solid Gold. It marked a major shift in the building's identity, turning the historic space into adult entertainment while preserving much of the original architecture, stained glass, marble, and woodwork.

Not long after, the club was renamed Schiek's Palace Royale, bringing the famous Schiek's name back to the building. There has been common misconception that the change was related to the original Schieks cafe but the club intentionally reused the famous Schiek's name because it carried enormous recognition and prestige in Minneapolis. From then on, there began a 22-year run that lasted until 2011, when it officially became Downtown Cabaret.

These photos only scratch the surface of an era from the original red stage and early performances, to attire, to later renovations of the stage, Schiek's anniversary celebrations, interior design, grand openings, and the evolution of a venue that has entertained Minneapolis for generations.

Meet Jadae & Amira

Chances are these are the first smiles you'll see when you walk through our doors.

Amira, she's celebrating 3 years on August 12th!
Originally joined DTC to help pay her way through esthetician school—now that she's a licensed esthetician now she's using it to help get through nursing school.
Loves meeting people from all walks of life and says, "It's never a boring night at DTC."

Jadae, our newer door host with 1 year at DTC and usually winner of the "Best Dressed Every Shift" award came from a management background and says DTC has become another family.
"Guests can always expect to be greeted with a smile."

If you've ever grabbed a drink at DTC, chances are you've met 1 of these 4 bartenders.

J5 recently celebrated 6 years with the DTC family.
Like many of our team members, he first came to DTC because he already knew people who worked here. When asked what keeps him coming back, "All my friends are here. The money, and getting to know people downtown. I never would have met anyone the way I have in this club."
Known for his quick wit and always having a joke ready, J5 has a way of helping create the fun atmosphere that makes DTC feel like home.

Red has been part of the DTC family for 10 years, first taking the stage as one of our entertainers. She's now been behind the bar for a year now.
She first found DTC thanks to her best friend, who was dancing here at the time and Red never looked back. When asked what keeps her coming back, her answer says it all:
"The energy, the vibes, the staff. It's always a good time whether I'm working or coming in as a customer. I've met some of the coolest people in here too." Ten years later, Red continues to bring that same energy to every shift, serving drinks with a smile and helping create the atmosphere that keeps guests coming back.

Chris. Our longest standing bartender and self proclaimed "Best Bar Manager Ever"
11½ years at DTC and 25 years total in the service industry. Chris first came to DTC to visit a friend who worked here... and the rest is history.
When asked what keeps him coming back after all these years, his answer was simple:
"My co-workers are family. After 11.5 years... it is like family."

A few fun facts about Chris:
"I'm as Irish as I am Korean." 😉
"When in doubt, buy me a Jameson."
He's also the man with the random snacks.

Thank you, Chris, for years of laughs, your consistency to show up and be an important part of the DTC family. 11.5 years later, he's still one of the personalities that keeps the bar fun.

Katie first came to DTC as a guest. A spontaneous application during a night out turned into a job and before she knew it, shes been behind the bar since 2024. She's a kinky ball of fun!

Thank you guys for greeting our guests with professionalism and charisma, for keeping our patrons hydrated and creating the atmosphere we all know and love.

15 Year Countdown. Day #7. Day One, Daddies.

Meet Dylan and Keith. The real O.G. "Pillars" of DTC.

Dylan has been leading Downtown Cabaret since the doors first opened in 2011 as our General Manager with almost 30 years of service industry experience, 12 years of that spent in Las Vegas. You can find him on the main floor, in the office, helping with staff, on the phone making important calls or wherever he is needed.

Keith is the man behind the numbers, our Office Manager. AKA "The Brain". Hes got 22 years of money counting experience. The fastest hands in the city. 10 years of that was spent at our sister club, Ricks Cabaret. While the music is bumping and the party's going, you'll usually find him behind the scenes making sure everything adds up while bumping his own tunes like prince, rock, funk and 90s hiphop.

Here's what they had to say to continue our celebration of 15 years.

How long have you been with DTC?
Dylan:
"I started 15 years ago, July 28th"
Keith:
"All 15."

Have you worked any other positions at DTC?
Dylan:
Manager since day one.
Keith:
"I've filled in for some front desk shifts and even worked as a floor host a few times."

What's the biggest change you've seen over the years?
Keith:
"All the interior changes that have been made. The extended main bar, expansion of the main floor with bottle service booths, remodeling the stage and installing the light wall, and remodeling the reception area. Everything has made the place more guest and worker friendly without diminishing the beauty of the club."

What's one thing customers would never guess happens behind the scenes?
Dylan:
"We live pretty boring lives at the end of the day. We're all real people with real lives, and sometimes people forget that."
Keith:
"If you act like you're not listening, you'll hear some WILD stories."

What's one of your favorite memories at DTC?
Dylan:
"Coming back after COVID" stuck out the most. The uncertainty of not knowing how everything was going to work out. Once our doors reopened, "Everyone came back."

Keith:
"Probably when Minneapolis hosted the Super Bowl. It was the busiest I've ever seen the club. 2–3 times the entertainers we normally have. I didn't clock out until 9–10 a.m. the next day. It was a long five days."

What keeps you coming back after all these years?
Dylan:
"The people I work with. I like Minnesota. I can't imagine working as anything else. The best people I've ever been around, and that's a fact" as he implies both the people of MN and the people he works with.

Keith:
"Besides the hours, flexibility, and the money, I've been extremely lucky to work with a lot of the same crew for the past 7–10 years. We're all genuinely happy to see each other every day, and we expect each other to deliver top-notch service day in and day out. That team mentality makes it easy to come back each day."

Downtown Cabaret wouldn't be the same without their leadership, dedication, and countless hours behind the scenes. Thank you, Dylan and Keith, for helping shape the last 15 years. Cheers to you both on this wild run. You're both loved more than you know.

15 Day Countdown. Day #6! Fancy Feast

Long before Downtown Cabaret, this building was home to Schiek's Café, one of the city's longest standing restaurants.

Founded in the 1880s, Schiek's made its way to Downtown Minneapolis in the late 1950s.

Schieks was a high class restaurant that commonly welcomed politicians, to celebrities and visitors looking for one of the best dining experiences with money to spend.

It became famous for its elegant atmosphere, singing waitstaff, stained glass, marble interior, unforgettable hospitality and was formally home to the singing Sextettes who never missed a performance night, weekly!

As the decades passed and Schieks closed their doors in the early 70s, the building evolved once again into Zeldas, The Spaghetti Emporium. bringing a more casual dining experience while preserving many of the historic architectural.

There were other restaurants at this location in the 70s and 80s such as "Brandies" and more but not many information can be found from those dining ventures following Schiek's Cafe but patrons still remember the good ole days!

Fun Fact #1: During Schiek's move into this building, the iconic crystal chandelier was installed beneath the historic dome as part of a major renovation.

🎬 Fun Fact #2: This building even made it onto the big screen serving as a filming location for Alexander O'Neals music video, a broken heart can mend released in 1985! The details of the stained glass and interior marble pillars can be seen on the photos and some of the interior still stand today.
