“The place tells me what my brush needs to do to give it form, atmosphere and light. When done, my wish is that you, like me, are standing right there.”

Kathleen Krishnan’s creative practice blends the observed and the imagined to create beautiful landscapes and studies of nature. She draws from places that are held lovingly in her memory, and uses multiple photo references to build them further, making them more beautiful and vivid to unveil a dream-like vision of these places. Her work is housed in numerous private and public collections across the country, and she has been maintaining an exhibition practice since 2008. Additionally, since 2013, Kathleen has co-owned and operated Price-Krishnan Gallery located in the Northrup King Building in Minneapolis’s Northeast Art District.

We hope you’ll join us on October 27th at 6:30pm in Pohlad Hall at the downtown Central Library for a reading and conversation with Layli Long Soldier in celebration of her new collection, We. She will be joined in conversation by Heid E. Erdrich. Registration required. Eventbrite ink below in comments. We, coming from Graywolf Press is available to preorder on our website now!

In We, Layli Long Soldier examines what it means to be in community, to be in relation with family, nation, history, and language. We is the first-person plural, the pronoun of inclusion in English. It is also Wé, the Lakota word meaning “blood”—what is shared and what is shed.

In this ingenious and insightful arrangement of poems, lyric essays, and her own visual artworks presented in full color, Long Soldier creates unique spaces of collaboration, mentorship, and shared knowledge. The 184 X’s signed to a broken treaty, the fringes of a winged dress braided in honor of children lost to Indian boarding schools, and intricate Lakota star quilts become shapes and patterns that convey collective kinship, memory, and grievance. “From this day forward,” Long Soldier writes, “I declare a war of language.”

We is a visionary new collection by a writer and artist whose unfolding works are among the most groundbreaking of our time.

This piece was created in the studio with my left hand (non-dominant), while I was going through what has been a very long recovery from breaking both bones and dislocating my right hand. A plein-air painting was used as a reference and source of inspiration. The scene is from southern Minnesota. I have added “LH” to the signature for Left Hand. It is debuting in a new Groveland Gallery group show, “Trees - Homage to Foliage”

From towering forest sentinels to intimate woodland paths, TREES: HOMAGE TO FOLIAGE celebrates the uplifting, life-sustaining, and elegant presence of trees. This exhibition explores the remarkable variety of forms, colors, and atmospheres found in landscapes throughout the changing seasons. The featured artists transport viewers to quiet glens, sprawling woodlands, and luminous canopies where light filters through leaves and branches, revealing the natural world’s enduring beauty and resilience. Whether depicting the grandeur of ancient trees or the fleeting brilliance of autumn foliage, each artist offers a unique perspective on one of nature’s most enduring subjects.

An opening reception for TREES: AN HOMAGE TO FOLIAGE will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 2:00–5:00 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view (Tuesday through Saturday, 12:00–5:00) through October 17, 2026.
