NATURE NARRATIVES - Group Exhibition features “Raven of Hope” ’26 Acrylic on Canvas 30x40” by Minneapolis Artist Carol Sandgren who captures the mesmerizing iridescence of a Raven’s feathers with true raven star markings surrounding captivating eyes. Carol shares that she lived in Kenya for five years and while there she developed a deep love for the astonishing beauty of the wildlife, landscape, and culture. This experience left a lasting impression on her and continues to inspire her artwork today. She lent a poem entitled Raven of Hope to accompany her work – "She is tattered and torn, yet has weathered the storm. She looks out toward light and is ready for flight. Stars in her eyes, gaining strength as she flies - there’s new growth every day as darkness gives way - to the light of what’s right."
Minnesota artist Josephine Cora Prins presents “Strength” 9x11"a stunning pyrography and watercolor work. Josephine describes that wood is used as a canvas for her paintings to bring an element of growth and natural beauty. The wood grain adds movement to each piece as the eye explores the various aspects of the work. For the underpaintings, she uses burning to map out the composition to make way for renewal and creation. Watercolor fills these voids providing a sense of renewal and clarity, allowing for the story to peek through, adding an element of transparency giving space to experience the conversation between wood, burns and pigments much like the conversation between nature and our soul.
Josephine currently shows several additional works at Groveland Gallery.
“Driftwood Fort”, oil on panel, 14x16” by Duluth Artist Brock Larson highlights and promotes the beauty (and profound) truths that are experienced in nature as honestly as possible. Brock’s artistic purpose is to enhance the viewers’ perception of our surroundings, as well as to share an appreciation for the gift that is life. Brock’s work has been included in multiple exhibitions and gallery shows throughout the US, including NYC, Cape Cod, Charleston, St. Louis, Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Grand Marais MN, Duluth MN, Door County WI, and Los Angeles. In recent years, Brock has competed in multiple plein air events in the Midwest. He took first place in Plein air Grand Marais in 2023 and 2024 and was chosen to be the juror for the 2025 competition.
“Superior boathouse” ’24 oil on canvas, 30x40” is a dramatic North Shore painting created by Midwest Artist Dan Mackerman who tells that he is inspired by the meaning and beauty of what he sees - finding beauty in cityscapes, landscapes and in people going about their daily business. Drawn both to the character and moodiness of the north shore and to the patterns and narratives of a rural landscape. Dan tells that consistent with his very first and lasting influence, the Regionalists of the 1930’s, he loves to celebrate the lives of people who might otherwise be overlooked. Nature Narratives features several of Dan Mackerman’s impactful paintings.
