This week, meet the cast of THE RETELLING 🎭

Laurel Armstrong currently resides in the Twin Cities where her primary focus as an actor/singer is on new work. Laurel’s live performance work has taken her all the way from Osaka, Japan, to her kitchen table. She has also done a bit of producing, writing, and directing in the realms of sketch comedy and innovative multidisciplinary work.

"One challenge of working virtually is not being able to practice duets. But I don't have to factor in travel time to rehearsals or get a babysitter! But do have to make sure my kids aren't around for any scary or sweary bits.

When it comes to scary movies, I am a scaredy-cat. I think my last scary movies were "Blair Witch Project" and "Seven" in high school and I never intentionally watched another. That tells you how weak-sauce I am. Also how old." 🧙‍♀️

This week, meet the cast of THE RETELLING 🎭

Cam Pederson is a Twin Cities based Actor/Drag Queen and graduate from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre. He recently made his Twin Cities debut at Lyric Arts Theatre in the regional premiere of "Bright Star."

"I was hesitant at first to get involved with digital work (it seems so spooky-strange!) But my opinion changed when it became clear the pandemic isn't subsiding anytime soon. Challenges to this as an Actor and Drag Queen is that you are suddenly responsible for things that a full crew is normally extremely helpful with. We became full-blown production managers/lighting designers/sound mixers overnight. It IS cool to connect with folks you maybe wouldn't normally work with via Zoom. I've met some extraordinary people on my laptop during this "digital era."

The role of "Jacob" is interesting and sadly more common in society than one might think. I won't spoil anything...but "The Retelling" takes an ancient story and twists it like a knife!

I'm a HUGE Halloween fan. I think a lot of my artistic inspiration came from "spooky season" flicks from my childhood. Some of my favorites are "The Craft" "The Witches" "Hocus Pocus" and anything by Tim Burton! 🧙‍♀️

Did you know that THE RETELLING is a musical? 🎶 Meet the composer, Simon Sperl.

Simon is the Founder and Executive/Artistic Director of the Not Yet New Music Choir. An organization that professionally records composers' choral music (for free!) while helping them build a foundation of community support. Simon's recent projects and accomplishments include Dracula, a ballet commissioned by the Twin Cities Ballet Company (set to premiere in March 2021 at the Fitzgerald Theatre).

Even the thought of a scary movie sets his heart racing, there's something about zombie movies that delight him. "They are great allegories; the zombies are rarely the real villain. Humans who are in it only for themselves is what creates the chaos and destruction." 🧟‍♂️🧟

Meet the playwright of THE RETELLING, Alayna Jacqueline!

"In THE RETELLING we've been experimenting with who has the power, the monster, or you. We never see the character that everyone fears, but his presence is felt throughout the play in both the music and the way characters band together or drift apart.

I love the horror/thriller genre. From campy slasher B-movies to experimental avant-garde, I think it's one of the most fascinating styles of storytelling. My two most favorite horror films are Psycho and El Orfanato (The Orphanage)." 😱
