I'll be closing down this art page and my FB profile later this week. I've stepped away from it for the most part the last few months and I can feel how much lightened my nervous system feels.
I have been basking myself in self care, college, family, home, travel... Life is good. I'll have my website going, blog, linkedin and youtube channel. I'd love to keep in touch with any of you via email. mine is: (Noelle_@_NoelleRollinsArt.com) of course without the spaces.
It doesn't feel right to make a grand announcement like this or disappear without saying anything as if this (and each of you) hasn't been a major part of life, supporting my small business and communicating for me for the past 15+ years. Had so much fun creating these two surprise paintings for Sky and her boyfriend for Christmas. He’s from Philly so he got a Philadelphia Skyline themed painting. Her the Minneapolis Skyline. Made them flow into one another a bit so they can be hung side by side. ❤️❤️

"Look me in the eyes" by Noelle Rollins. This portrait is 18”x24” and completed with charcoal.

Artist Statement

To unapologetically exist, to dare to speak against power. What if the story we’ve been told is a lie, another chapter in the book to keep us afraid and complacent? To allow her story to be told from her, to allow each woman’s story to be told. When history is almost exclusively “his story”; if forces us to imagine the other perspectives, the other truths, the stories not repeated.

To be a woman in her forties, well behaved, a life played by the rules; to open myself up to question, to wonder, to seek. The lifelong seeking continues inwardly, with age has come more freedom. Freedom from other’s opinions and approvals. A deeper desire to do work that matters, to see her; me, others. Not the polished public persona that also is true, but the less curated self. Embracing the anger, the rage, the knowing, the power, the truths, the love, the connections, this portrait is a revealing of the complexities of them all. Not a smile, not full smirk, not full rage exposed; instead a mystery, uncertainty what her next move is. Just an inner knowing and trusting that is steadfast and evolving.

More updates. I loved the eyes from before but the feeling for this art needed to be more internal rage meets mystery, and more of an “I’m up to something “ vibe. So changed them more white showing under iris, lids lower so I’m looking up with my head slightly down. Smirking slightly. The goal is a sense of uncertainty of what my emotion is.

Progress so far on the fun self portrait I’m working on in my drawing class. Truthfully I had a little fear that after drawing my whole life I would take a college course and it would sour the joy of it for me. The opposite has happened. A deeper comfort level for pushing the boundaries, trusting my vision, sketching and creating with a goal of simply creating and challenging myself. ❤️ Finding ways to be creative in our lives is vital, music, building, writing, inventing, art… it all matters.
