Summer meets fall.
We have entered a phase of cool mornings, sweaty afternoons, and wild, unruly flowers beginning to brown at the edges. Anxious squirrels and fidgety children anticipating back to school. Parents ready for a frickin schedule that they’ll complain about within a week. Adjustments. Changes. Endings.
I have had a spectacular summer with my kids. We summered the hell out of it. And that has meant leaving some of my personal goals by the wayside while eating popsicles on the front porch and splashing around at water parks.
Everyone who’s been through it tells me to enjoy my kids, spend the time with them, let the rest go. And I’m sure they know what they’re talking about.
But I miss having a good two straight hours of painting with no interruptions other than a stupid commercial for GLP-1s interrupting my podcast. Just me and a paintbrush with plenty of time to mix the colors and make mistakes.
I squeaked this one out over the course of the last three days and it feels like a much needed bandaid for that yearning. I love its summer meets fall feeling. And I’m relieved to find that I can still paint something that I love.
Ok let’s make the most of this last week or so of summer before we get back on a schedule and remember how annoying schedules are.🌻
