🇮🇹 Six Nobel Prizes. Six extraordinary voices. One language: Italian.

What happens when Italian becomes a language of genius, imagination, rebellion, and creation?

To celebrate the 26th annual Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo, join us for a special edition of Il Circolo Letterario dedicated to Italy’s six Nobel laureates in Literature:

-- Grazia Deledda
-- Luigi Pirandello
-- Salvatore Quasimodo
-- Eugenio Montale
-- Dario Fo

This year’s theme, Lingua geniale: ideare, progettare, creare con l’italiano, celebrates Italian as a language capable of imagining, shaping, and creating new worlds.

With Pieranna Garavaso, Professor Emerita at the University of Minnesota Morris and Literary Advisor to the Italian Cultural Center, we’ll explore the very different ways these writers transformed the Italian language to tell stories, challenge conventions, capture regional life, experiment with literary forms, and make sense of the human experience.

Special focus:
Grazia Deledda, whose Nobel Prize was awarded 100 years ago, and Dario Fo, whose theater and satire boldly challenged conventions and authority.

Whether you love Italian literature or are simply curious about the voices that have shaped it, come discover the genius of Italian through its Nobel laureates.

Coming up on 8/26: A powerful classic of Italian neorealism, Giuseppe De Santis's RISO AMARO (Bitter Rice) brings together drama, suspense, desire, and the struggles of women rice workers (mondine) in Northern Italy’s Po Valley.

The Italian Film Festival of Minneapolis / St. Paul (IFF), the The Italian Cultural Center's signature annual event, celebrates the best of contemporary and classic Italian cinema each year. In addition to IFF and the Center's ongoing Cineforum series, IFF also presents special screenings throughout the year in partnership with local theaters and community organizations. Following the wonderful success of our March presentation of Stromboli, we are delighted to continue the series with Giuseppe De Santis's acclaimed classic Riso Amaro (Bitter Rice), in partnership with Archives on Screen, Twin Cities, Twin Cities, at the historic Heights Theater.

Thank you for joining us for a summer aperitivo!

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for a lovely summer evening at Vittorio’s!

L’Italian Cultural Center di Minneapolis/St. Paul (ICC) è alla ricerca di insegnanti di italiano madrelingua o con eccellente conoscenza della lingua italiana per i propri corsi rivolti ad adulti.

Requisiti: laurea italiana o americana, preferibilmente in discipline umanistiche, lingue e letterature straniere o scienze della formazione. È richiesta esperienza nell’insegnamento della lingua italiana o di altre lingue straniere.
