Why did we decide to make a dance performance for coffee shops? ☕️✨👇
Because since they began, coffee shops have always been about more than getting a good cup of coffee. They were forums for discussion & debate, meeting spots for countercultural groups, activists, poets, philosophers, and artists, and places to slow down and enjoy daily rituals.
Today, we still exist in these spaces for all of these purposes and more. A coffee shop is the classic “third space,” where we can be in community together, sharing space, food, drink, and conversation. Wherever you are in the world, a coffee shop can be place to find connection.
And dance, for us, is all about connection.
Grounds gets you up close with four dancers celebrating the history and purpose of coffee shops, and brings contemporary dance into public spaces to create more direct connection with the audience.
No separation between seats and stage, no ticket takers, no curtain. Just you and the dancers, sharing space, dance and coffee. 🤝
Meet us at PILLLAR * Forum on 7/27 at 7pm ⚡️
