Philip Shorey got tricked into learning the piano by his Grandmother at the age of six. But after discovering his own taste for the instrument he fell in love with it and flourished. Today he combines classical theory and technic while finding the natural direction for the student. He offers a chance for students to learn to compose, play with other instruments like the Thiamin or Saw & Bow (a ski
ll his Grandfather taught him), record their songs to CD, and discover other styles. Prior to The Music Parlor, Philip has over ten years teaching experience at Barton Elementary School and The Linden Hills House of Music in South Minneapolis. He has a degree from the Institute of Production and Recording. He has performed at the Bedlam Theater on the West Bank and other venues around the world. When not teaching, working on the house or hanging out with his wife Sari, together they travel performing music and a marionette show (www.suitcasesideshow.org) on the streets of struggling villages, orphanages, and schools throughout Eastern Europe and South America. Philip is a thorough yet patient teacher and is especially good with young students. Philip also offers small group classes for 4 and 5 year olds where kids are introduced to various instruments, singing, musical games, and musical styles in order to inspire and deepen their interest for music.
