It's Open Studio Saturday! Every painting by Morgan Mercer of Studio 244 begins as a hand-cut paper collage, which then becomes the inspiration for a larger abstract oil painting. This piece, "She Became Weightless," is the collage that inspired one of her newest paintings. Both pieces explore the feeling of becoming weightless - the moment when the world's heaviness falls away and you can just be. Stop by her studio to see the painting that resulted from this collage!

Inspired by a tiny windup taxi found in a Roman toy shop, in Studio 214 created this linocut print using blended ink rolls to capture the car's metal surface and gradient highlights. Carved across three linoleum blocks and printed in multiple sessions to keep the inking manageable, the piece even features hand-drilled texture on the tablecloth — a technique the artist tried for the first time.

Stohl on Paper is open for Open Studio Saturdays, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and by appointment.

Todays the day! We are so excited to bring you our new indoor art fair: ☀️ Summer Sizzle! ☀️

From 10am to 6pm today, August 15th, our doors are open and we are featuring hundreds of artists, multiple open studios on all four floors of our historical arts complex, tasty summer treats from Bridgeman's Ice Cream and Blackberry Bakery, live art, new exhibitions, and more! We can't think of a better way to spend a late summer day.

Fresh from the bindery - "Plague" is an allegorical zombie apocalypse tale about the rise of right-wing extremism in America from bookmaker Angel Bomb. Inspired by the current administration's villainization of LBGTQ and immigrant communities, the story explores moral compromise, the erosion of democratic norms, and the impossible position of those trying to maintain their humanity while surrounded by organized brutality. 6 x 9” hardbound with Japanese book cloth.

Angel Bomb is available by appointment in Studio 271, and will be open for our Summer Sizzle Indoor Art Fair on August 15th.
